I paid for one once, total waste of time Plentyoffish is perfect, loads of people and totally free. I havent found them to be all that great though. I thought Id do great on them since Im not really a stereotypical IT geek, but you have to work hard to keep someone you like interested, as theres so many more men than women there. I think my problem was that I didnt suggest meeting up soon enough...Id stay chatting to them for ages and they'd lose interest, which is fair enough, it is a dating site afterall. Some of my friends have done well though. My flatmate met his girlfriend of 4 months on there. Im lucky that in the last few weeks things have started to fall into place for me, so havent needed the site. 'Seeing' several different girls atm so its all good

It does say that...but keep scrolling down and the solutions are there And no, not even got a membership Not even using the cached google results, although thats another way to view them Again, not complaining, just find it amusing
-
Not something I use a lot, but it often comes up when Im googling for a solution to something Can anyone tell me why they have the 'Sign up to view the solution' messages, but if you keep scrolling down you can see the solution anyway? Not complaining but it makes me laugh, why bother trying to make people sign up if you can see all the solutions for free anyway?

Thankyou, that worked brilliantly Although after I kept modifying the MSI because I realised more and more OCX files were needed for this bloody program, it decided to stop working altogether so spent the last few hours trying to sort that out In the end just recreated it and it works fine now. Cheers

I feel embarrased. We have Solution Suite 2, with a licence for every single client, and I didnt even know you could do that! We still use Ghostcast Server and manually go to the machine, boot into Ghost and then go back to rename it afterwards THANKYOU

Yeah you might have to, I havent got a clue here lol Im running it from the console, creating a new package but theres no 'add' in the File menu. I can add a feature from the action menu but I cant actually see where to specify what Im adding Im using Wininstall LE 2003. Am I looking in the wrong place?
-
Aha I use Wininstall too, so i'll give that a go. Cheers
-
How do you do that? Using an MSI capture package?

Im sure we've all got some, old software that needs these registered Im trying to set up Getting To Grips With Graphs We must have had a fix because it ran fine before our apps server died...obviously now I cant look at what the fix was There is an ocx file called threed32.ocx that needs to be registered. Logging on as someone with local admin rights, the software works (does it register it when the software is opened?) Students - no chance. Ive tried batch files, wont let them register it, since they arnt local admin. Now tried a startup script with the following regsvr32 threed32.ocx /s Stayed on 'running startup scripts' for ages then when I could eventually log on the software still didnt work. If I log in as an admin and run it, students can then run it. So I either need a script that can register that file, or another way round it. We never needed a script before, it just worked, so there must be another workaround Any help appreciated

Id rather if they didnt know my name! Its rather worrying when random companies phone up and know mine and the NM's name

Didnt post any of this last week because I was too busy really. Came in last Monday to all round panic due to a power failure over the weekend. As it died down, and we got servers and switches on one by one, it appeared one particular server wasnt booting up. On closer inspection, it was saying there was an error in the RAID array...3 drives failed apparantly. Im assuming it wasnt physical failure because the likelyhood of 3 dying is surely SO remote its just not possible. But whatever has happened, the data is bascially just...gone Quite annoying considering it was connected to a networked UPS, had the agent installed, and was supposed to shut down on power failure. It obviously didnt do that... Anywy, the server that died held the shared area and all applications. Shared area, fine, restore from backup onto another server. Apps...it was something I had been meaning to back up for ages...but as the full backup always took so long I never had time. So its all gone. Thank god I did have some bits backed up, like all the finance data, science monitor, heritage etc. But 99% of it is gone So had fun since then completely restoring every single app from CD. Network titles are OK, just tedious copying them all back, and slightly annoying when you find out we have a licence but no CD. But whats most annoying is all my custom MSI's, and various tweaked ones, are all gone . Gonna take a LONG time to recreate all those On the plus side, I had wanted to tidy that server up for years, so at least this has forced me to do it And Im now getting a new server out of it. But the moral of the story - BACK UP EVERYTHING. Not just most of it...EVERYTHING

I kind of see what you're saying. Obviously survival in financial terms was much more vital than winning the cup. But considering Pompey havent exactly been in a relegation battle this season, Im not sure why he felt the need to say that, just enjoy the moment ffs. He should be delighted with winning it, since they obviously arnt going to win the league in the forseeable future, its the only silverware they're going to get The premiership is a bit depressing for about 12 of the teams. OK it is a good league to watch and there genuinely are some surprise results at times, but overall you can predict fairly accurately who is going to finish where. Just fighting to stay up each season isnt really success is it? Like before the Prem, there were obviously teams like Liverpool who won the league more often than not, but you would still get the odd unexpected team winning it, and even since the Prem, in the first few years the top 4 was always different but as more money has come in, the 'big 4' have cemented their places. Its a bit boring. Im a Reading fan, and obviously I was gutted we were relegated. But looking on the bright side, at least next season we can aim for more than just surviving, and have a chance of winning far more games and perhaps even challanging for the title. At least the Championship is pretty open...I mean who would have expected Stoke to go up this season. But then again, if you do well and go up, its just back to surviving again... Oh and Wembley, I sort of agree. Its a quality stadium but it just doesnt seem right with the FA Cup. There was something iconic about seeing players lift the trophy at the old one, it is pretty much like the Millenium Stadium now. Although at least they still have to walk to the royal box I suppose

Ive seen these type of threads come up a few times on various forums and people all tend to have the same few humourous suggestions. If any of you actually request those, fair play but I suspect the majority wont Every sad song I know has been used too much and I wouldnt want to have some generic funeral so unless I come across a really personal song before I die Ill just suggest some drum and bass to be played...only because I doubt many people have done that

We're a technology college so apparantly have to provide support to feeder schools Its not something I really like myself...it means that one member of our team is only on site 1 morning a week, rest of the time shes at primary schools, plus theres a load of laptops that always have to be moved from school to school. And then, we lose the most experianced member of our team for at least a day a week while he provides tech support to schools. Ive got no problem with the idea of supporting primaries but I think we go slightly over the top. For example when some primaries now have several IT suites, should they not have some sort of support contract instead of relying on us? Should they not be factoring support in when they budget for equipment? If its just a few computers obviously its a bit different

We trialled one and proceeded to buy it, from what I hear from a colleague setup was pretty painless. I think we were given an updated CD from our SMART reseller though and the hardware thing is possibly a one off?

Had a power cut over the weekend, one of our servers will not boot. Looking in the console it believes 3 drives out of 5 have failed which seems so unlikely to me?! The array appears in 'error' state in the console and when I try to repair, I just get 'Array in error state cannot be repaired automatically. Please contact your sysadmin or Intel customer support' The controller is ancient, got a date of 2000-2002 and looking on Intel's site, support has ended for it. The controller is an Intel SRCU42L.....if anyone has any experiance with the storage console for the thing Id really appreciate some help, because the only manual repair bits I can find dont seem to do anything Array is RAID-5 btw. Typical the server is a vital one, has all the shared area (which is backed up) and all Apps (which arnt...) so its an absolute nightmare if I cant get the data back off these drives

But they dont seem to show any business intelligence at all! If thats all you need for a 6 figure salary Im in the wrong job!
-
Hes not gonna get very lucky then because the producers have obviously tried so hard to make it a fun reality show, theyve managed to pick the 12 people with the least common sense in the UK. Makes for funny TV but a good employee? That said, Lucinda is very good, and mental, which is why I like her . Sara seems pretty intelligent and switched on, hope she goes far. And Raef is just a legend

Currently, all our OSX clients have standalone logons, one for each year, and once logged on under the generic account, students connect to our mac server in which they have a folder to save their work. The only time the clients touch the Windows network is to get an IP address and to access the net This isnt ideal as I have to maintain a seperate load of accounts on the mac server, and students have no real restrictions on what they can do on the macs, as none are centrally managed. Ive now got a brand new 10.5 server, a load of new macbooks, and upgrades to 10.5 for our year old iMacs. So I want to start afresh and have a much better system. What I want to do is bind to AD so students can use their windows logons, but I want it for authentication only, I dont want them to be able to access their my documents or anything. I want their home drive/documents to be on the mac server, and I want to be able to idally set preferences etc from the mac server as well Is it possible to do things like this? Ive read a bit about the binding itself but it seems to mention binding the clients themselves to AD? Is there a way for just the server to be bound and the clients rely on that to autheticate them?

Surprised I couldnt find anything about this? Apart from the fact Im slightly annoyed this is now the THIRD different piece of software for online testing we've had to use (why cant they all use the same?) I just wanted to know if its as much of a nightmare as say, Promissor (praying it isnt) Anyone used it? We've got some Languages tests starting June 9th so we have to install it soon

A few do here but only because thats what they requested in their rooms. They dont get personal laptops as such They're about the only ones though, any member of staff seems to get given one here!
-
Probably the same pictures then, think all the broadcasters use the same video stream...and yeah its ridiculous. I often notice that with european games. Compared to Sky where they have replays of every little thing
-
fair enough i didnt see a lot of replays on my slovakian stream over the internet lol but have seen it again and yeh Drogba was in front of Reina. The others wernt interfering imo though

Get in, great game!! So so glad Liverpools luck has finally run out, and Chelsea were the better team on the night Sorry but how was Essien's goal offside? None of the players in an offside position had anything to do with it!

Just got a brand new xserve, but in between the order getting passed between people, one of the drives got left off the order, and I needed 2. Apple want £270 for another 1Tb drive, yet I can buy the same Hitachi drive on its own for £150. So I thought it would be easy to buy an empty module to fit your own drive into but it seems Apple dont do that Does anywhere sell them or am I really going to have to spend £120 on a piece of plastic?
