I was asked to set up a machine for video editing, and as I had a little background in the subject I bought Avid XPress Pro and a nicely specced machine to run it on. 6 months later the machine is still sat on my desk (in fact I am typing this post on it) and one teacher who wanted to get into editing with the kids has been using MS movie maker! I'm not complaining tho - it is a nice machine (luvvin' the two monitors!) and they do on occasion ask me to make videos so I'm all set to go! Editing videos over the network is a bit rubbish (to say the least) you're best well speccing a second hard drive (a really big one) and giving kids access to it. You can always allow them to sync files with their home drives at the beginning and end of sessions etc., but beware of your space on your servers!! Andy.

Now, if we can just convince SMT that the pub is the optimum place for monitoring the school network...

2 recent threads got me thinking - and rather than trying to decide which thread to join, thought I'd better start a new one. We have started the journey into server based computing and have a small cluster - or rather 2 very small clusters of thin clients running off Terminal Server. They've been in a couple of months and I've hardly had to go down to either at all!! (which is good as they're both at the other side of the school!) Anyway, after that long winded intro I have two questions: Is anyone using NetSupportManager or NetOP (an argument for a previous thread!) or similar on thin clients? We have a very flaky IT suite which I think would benefit from converting to thinstations, but the teacher up there relies on NetOP. Just wondering if that kind of technology works on Terminal Server. Also, I am very interested in Citrix (I know some of you aren't, but I'm hoping the ones who are might answer ) Their licensing looks screwier than M$! But that's probably just because I'm a bit more used to Microsoft. What do I need to get started? Is it just the presentation server and some clients? Or the full access suite? Also which version do people use (Enterprise, Advanced, System)? I know it would appear at the moment that it is not worth spending on Citrix as we don't have that many machines, but it is something that I think is about to grow here quite big and quite fast. Not an answer to your question I'm afraid - but... The Student deployment thingy worked a treat when I was trialling NetOP but has never worked properly since we bought it!! Is that what you mean when you say push client out from the server? Andy.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that with cups, you could set it up so the teacher could choose which jobs to release from their machine - do you know where I begin to look at this Geoff? (or anyone ) Cheers, Andy.

I put mine in netlogon and browse for it in GP. I think there is a default location where scripts go otherwise 'per policy'. I'm sure you could put it pretty much where you wanted, but you'd have to get the permissions right - obviously sorted if it goes in netlogon! Exactly right, but I think you'll find you need to put your script in the Logon Scripts policy under User Config (but for the machine's policy!) Andy.
