  1. ROFLMFAO We need to sell that one anyway! Andy.
  2. I was at a show just before Christmas - a guy from BSF was there doing a talk. Schools were to receive more money in one go than they had had over the last 20 years in total! But they were to have this 'managed service' - no choice - you take the money - you take the managed service!! Very worrying. No one here in SLT seems to have heard anything - or at least not that they have told me! Maybe others know more? I wonder if anyone on here has 'been done' yet? The first schools have just started opening I believe. Andy.
  3. If I was cynical I would suggest using the figures to get them to agree to buying the kit you want! Andy.
  4. If you want a free version of what the professionals use - Avid Free DV. They invented the Preview/Programme/Timeline setup http://www.avid.com Andy.
  5. Well, that makes a refreshing change (Reference to a 90s Woodpecker ad if anyone was wondering!) Andy
  6. Interesting that ChrisH needs a recommendation!! lol Andy.
  7. I'm guessing JohnDs method isn't what you're looking for - this has been discussed earlier (tho I can't find where). It is to be found in a user's account properties and you have to specify which machines a user CAN log on to (a bit of a bummer when there are 150 machines permissable and only 3 not!) Grumbledooks way sounds interesting tho - not considered that Andy.
  8. Another member here! Probably went to same Uni as you pshuttle! I was going to write and say that you have full and free access to the IEE's library in London (you can request books to be sent) which is really good. But this morning I had an email saying I couldn't renew my books because BCS weren't paying for it anymore Andy MBCS (for now)
  9. ...and the geekiest pressie award goes to... Andy. (Back in work today hope everyone had a good christmas)
  10. Fantastic! Thought it would be a given that it would be smartfiltered - it wasn't! (The second one was) Have to ask... what were you looking for! Andy.
  11. Done. Took me several attempts - there were some php error messages. Andy.
  12. It appears more of a trade show than a conference now I've looked into it. Here's the site to look at. Andy.
  13. Anyone (Northeners I presume) going to the Reebok stadium on Wednesday? There is some conference the Deputy Head has signed me up to - not sure what it is. I think it's on on Tuesday also. Andy.
  14. How is the trial going the Geoff? Is it likely we may all have this luxury anytime soon do you think? Andy
  15. Me too
  16. It seems a lot of us have English teachers as 'other halves' (me too). Wonder what the relationship is there? Do they all despise IT as much as mine? Andy
  17. Yeah, just looked into it - RedHat do Academic pricing but a Site 'Subscription' starts at $2,500! Tho you can get individual licenses - would probably need looking into (more).
  18. I'm sure I read somewhere (tho I may have dreamt it) that it was going to be made available to schools for nowt - anyone else concur with that or am I just making it up (quite likely) Andy.
  19. Got it! Been on that screen about 4 times already today - staring me in the face - duh! Need to find the ICA eqiuivalent of bringing local disk drives to session (for pen drives).
  20. Interesting... will look into that - cheers Ric_ Andy.
  21. Well, I've bought some Citrix licenses, set everything up, set up the volume on my Winterms and then realised I'd bought a server with no soundcard - doh!

    Marmite

I think I'm one of a rare breed: I can take it or leave it The Mrs loves it - Marmite and cheese... and chicken, and lettuce (I can't take or leave that - that's a definite hate it!) Andy
  23. You can't split the signal so to speak (or you can technically but not effectively). You would need a separate feed from the dish which involves a "multi-tunable" (for the want of a more accurate description) LNB. I'm guessing your dish already has this if it is being shared - but being that it is shared, all the signals are probably taken up - what an awkward situation Sorry that my post was no help whatsoever! Andy.
  24. How do you charge per department? For example if in an ICT suite that is used by anyone, and you can see that little Billy Smiff has printed out 400 copies at a cost of 3 million quid - which department gets charged? That is the trouble we are having at the moment. Andy.
