Hi Grumbledook, I have just checked to see if the site has a robot.txt file but it does not seem to of downloaded (not to say that the site does not have one, i just cant find it). Inside the node folder there is 55 objects all with relivent data but I think there were ment to be hundereds of files inside that folder, they have wierd names like '335017@uc=force_deep.html' and '165326.html'. The downloaded site seems to trip when you hit a link that has some sort of redirect (not sure if its the redirect thats at fault or its just the file its trying to reach has not downloaded). I have tryed to look at the link when it is redirecting but it flashes so fast I can not see it (and does not show up in history) anyidea how i could view the link the page is trying to find?

My efforts have ended trying to download the site, with WD4W I have managed to download about 718Mb (27400 files in 1161 folders) of the site with some (no idea how many) of the links working well. It seems that any link that goes to a file with node in the name has not downloaded (or not linked right), I am not quite sure how all the links have been redirected in WD4W so some of the pages that don't link right might still of been downloaded. Does anyone know a way to do a link check on my downloaded files? maybe somehow import the site (files i have downloaded) into dreamweaver and run some kind of link check or something to make them relivent to to root folder? If anyone would like a copy of the files then just PM me and we will try and sort something out

Well, I have come back after the holiday and guess what?.......... the site is still up and running, what a panic for nothing. Has anyone had any ideas or luck at keeping the site alive after (if) its removed? I hope you all had a nice Easter

Thanks for the info Grumble. What you said sounds comman sense and a much better way for the teachers to get/build resources but me being just a mere mortal IT tech its not my place to tell them how to organise their job (I will suggest it), mines just to help in any way possible and at the moment the only way of doing that in this request is to download the whole site, unless you have another idea? so I'm just trying to solve a request. Well not going well so far, had the server downloading the site (which seems very slow) all night and will let it run until I give up or the site does lol. At the moment WD4W is ticking along at 5710/144443 files to download, its getting there

I just spoke to the teacher involved and they said they were "told" that the site is planned to be takendown by the end of March and they have already started to close some sections (I can not verify this as all links seem to be working for me but the site goes very deep). Well Backstreet Browser seems to be terrible so far, what it did download was terrible and the links did not work at all. WSD4W seems to be taking it all in its stride, I am going to restart it as its started to download the internet lol not sure I have the harddrive space the pages that it did download all link ok to eachother localy which is AMAZING! (well amazing for me). Specky what do you plan on doing about this? if my plan works I will whack it on a cd for you if needed

Sorry to revive an old post. I have been told this too that the framework will be removed soon and teachers here are panicing. We have 2 programs here (web based applications) called 'Primary Framework' and 'renewed Primary Framework'. I am not sure if both of these is just a copy of what is on their website or not, anyone know? Next thing is to downlload the entire website??? I am trying a few programs at the moment but I am not holding my breath......one is called 'Backstreet Browser 3.2' and the other is called 'Website downloader for Windows'. Both are churning away right now from the start address of Primary Framework So far BB has downloaded 1.4Mb but has a huge download que list and WD4W has downloaded 51Mb (both started at the same time(ish)). I can not see these programs being smart enough to redirect links to files etc after they are store localy but only time will tell. If anyone can help here.... Do you think after I have download the whole site that if I imported the site into dreamweaver and ran a link check it would sort all the reletive links out for me? or am I just asking too much

I would say go for the HTC Desire HD because Samsung are a terrible company for making phone operators pay for FREE updates. I think some of the last galaxy phones are still on 2.1 because Samsung wanted to charge everyone for the OTA update, something about system updates and cosmetic updates. The new HTC range of phones are out now/soon so you better have a look at them

hmm i have been interested with SetCPU, but from my experiences from windows mobile with CPU govenors is that things start to get unstable realy quickly, but of course we are talking about a whole different kettle of fish when it comes to Android. My fear is how does your phone act when its under continuous strain (say you are installing a huge app) and then the screen locks half way during the installation and then you turn the screen back on to see if the install has finished, so your phone was running at 120% then suddenly at 60% then back to 120% under a huge load which used to make WM crash or install apps but with memory leaks etc. I would like to hear your experience with it and i might give it a go. I do like the idea, I have seen some posts on XDA where they are saying take it down as low a 250Mhz on standby.

Browsix - is a brilliant html front to your phones memory and files, you can even view root if needed. Has a great page for viewing your photo's etc via Wifi or (Bluetooth?) Samba Filesharing - great app that turns your phone into a NAS drive, great if you forgot your cable and super fast browing and down/up loading via WiFi or (Bluetooth?) SECuRET Livestream - great app to view your phones camera from your PC in great quaulity via wifi, 3g or BT. Camera 360 Ultimate - I think you can only use this with root. Its the best camera app I have found for android, amazing features like stability control, tilt focus, HDR (simulation), higher ISO, seems to take and save much better quality images than the stock camera UI How about yourself? you did not mention any apps that you use that need root apart from dropbox and TB LosOjos

Sounds interesting, I will have a look at that app. I have not had any troubles when i was on a sense ROM to use the proxy app for every app without any problems. As for Warrenty, im sure if its in a state that you can not revert back to unrooted then the phone will be out of action and hardware will need replacing (not a root or unrooted issue), say the screen breaks...this is not affected by OS modifications with regard to warrenty as the device does not need to be operational to effect the repair (i.e does not need software checked or reconfigured by repair center). I can not think of a situation where this would be an issue apart from complete incompitence like taking the phone to a repair station because you can not find the @ key on the on screen keyboard as you have updated to another MIUI keyboard etc. I say it comes down to weather you want to use everything to do with your phone or just the basic. With root you can do full backup/restore of everything you have on your phone. You can increase the internal memory size of the phone to use the SD card (EXT partition), i have well over 200mb of apps installed, you can increase upto a size of 1.5Gb I think, Alot better than Froyo apps2sd can handle. There are always people that think you should never modify something that is already working fine so please dont argue with me which is better to mod or not to mod as this is not what im saying, I am just stating my experience that I have found my phone SO much more fun after I got root and i can not see a down side.

There is an excellent android app on Market that is called "Transparent Proxy" It allows you to set a proxy up and also add authentication. I am not sure if it needs root but if it does just use one of the one click root tools like unenvoke etc nice and easy! I would recommend you root your phone anyway as there are SO many good apps out there and ROM that need root. Im using Redux RC1 GRH78 (Gingerbread) and its stunning, it uses Zeam instead of HTC Sense as a front end which is ok but not as well refined. There are also amazing wifi profiles that can be set up, I can not remeber the name of the software but it gives you slide bars on each ssid it sees and you can set the level of siginal that the phone will switch to another ssid, I wish there was a program for windows that was that easy.

Ok after alot of hair pulling (my own that is) I have managed to get it working. Next problem is how do I get teachers from home to access it, we are behind SWGFL. I have setup 'Routing and Remote access' with VPN and NAT but I dont get how the server knows what its external IP address is etc. Any help would be very much appriciated

Hi Nick, Home access plus looks SO good, thank you for all your hard work and time. I feel bad asking for your (or anyones) help but I have hit a brick wall with this. background... Server 2003 STD SP2 running AD, DNS, DHCP our ISP is SWGFL I have 3 sites that are the same spec/setup for the servers and one is a CC3 network I have NO background knowledge of VPN's or IIS services (terrible I know but I am sure this will change with the use of this site). I have followed your instructions (from the PDF on the documentation page of your site) to the letter but nothing is working at all. I have installed IIs and also installed the .net V4 (4.0.30319) and then I ran windows update just to make sure all was up-to-date and restarted. During the instructions I came accross a problem, during steps 21-24 I found the wwwroot folder in 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot' but it looks like it has a website in there already so I created another folder on the server 'F:\wwwroot\Extranet' which I added to the 'Home directory' under the 'local path' section. I have set the permissions as stated but I wasn't sure if I should remove the inherited permissions aswell (there is nothing that would denie access to admins or staff). During steps 27-30 I had a problem as I did not have a site called 'Extranet', only 3 sites ('Default website', 'Administration' and 'Microsoft sharepoint administration' so I created a site called 'extranet'. At step 31 I selected 'extranet' and the 'starting point' section under the 'Application name' now reads . On the ASP.net tab I have the following details... ASP.net version: 4.0.30319 Virtual path: Extranet file location: f:\wwwroot\extranet\web.config all the other sections went fine but nothing sems to be doing anything when I type in my address (http://%domianname%/extranet), I am swapping the %domainname% with only my domain name and not the server plus domain name i.e. HAL.myshool.devon.sch.uk. So the address I am typing is... http://myschool.devon.sch.uk/extranet I get a page back saying...'The URL could not be retieved' 'the domain name does not exist' I have trolled all the threads in this post and can't find any answers. So sorry to send such NOOB questions your way but I hope you can help. Please let me know if I have left any important details out that you need to know I have done. I hope someone can help me as the teachers at all the sites will be SOOOOO happy to have this access at home P.s I have not done this on the CC3 network yet as they might be upgrading soon.

I too have never really used Microsoft Access to recommend to teachers but instead we always use 'Junior ViewPoint' for years 5 and 6, in year 5 they use an old victorian census database to do queries etc and in year 6 they build thier own database about pupils within their class etc to make queries on things like how many people with brown eyes. Pupils and teachers seem to like it and get on well (i.e. I dont get asked many questions about it or problems) Interesting to see if anyone else has anything good to share

not sure if this is relivent, but have you made sure you have a default user profile within your netlogon folder so the PC knows what structure you want for the profiles. Might help but not sure. Make sure in the profiles field within the AD for the users is using unc path and not a mapped drive (i.e \\fileserver\profiles$\JBlogs and not x:\profiles\jblogs) and that the user have read/write access to the profiles folder. Via a GPO you can set the owner of the profile to have exculsive rights aswell. Also I would delete all local profiles from the workstation you are trying except your administrators one then restart and try and logon with the new user.

Big thanks to SRochford with his script thats its now nice and simple.. To make the script just open Notepad and copy&paste the code into a new text document, then save as and change the file type to 'all files' and then remember to add the .bat to the file name (script.bat). If you are running this on the server then this is the code I think you should use (this is asuming that the partition you have the Profiles$ folder on is drive letter X: and that the profiles folder is at the root of the drive (X:\profiles) if its not then change the drive letter in the script to the one you need and add the parent folders name/s before the \profiles (cd studentfolder\profiles) X: cd \profiles for /d %%i in (*) do rd "%%i\cookies" /s /q & pause If you are running this from a workstation logged in with admin rights on the server then you can just map a drive letter to the folder or use this script NET USE X: \\curricsvr1\profiles$ X: for /d %%i in (*) do rd "%%i\cookies" /s /q & pause as SRochford says you should make a temp profile folder with the name 0000 inside your profile folder so it definutly comes first and then add a cookies folder inside it. both the scripts have the added pause so you can use it just on your temp profile folder and cancel if something is not right. I hope this helps, and if it works then please just us know

I would use a vista install disk and get to the repair your computer part and use the command prompt there to extract your file or use Hiren's boot CD (its AMAZING!) and boot up into Mini_XP and replace the new file off your XP CD from there. I would also do a chkdsk c: /f /r to make sure there are no errors You can download a fresh copy of Hal.dll from here if you want to.....hal.dll free download - DLL-files.com or I found this on the net for after you have replaced the Hal.dll file and still wont boot: Enter Recovery Console •Type the following commands, and press enter after each one: ◦Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini (where C: is the partition where XP was installed) ◦DEL C:\Boot.ini ◦BootCfg /Rebuild ◦Fixboot •Reboot ur PC If this hasn't worked then I am sure a talented tech will be along shortly to help you out

Thank you srochford, your batch file worked perfectly. I will trial adding a hidden folder to the users home directory which will have the cookies folder redirected to it and see how it goes, Im in the worst offending site on thursday so will let you know about the treesize figures of the profiles there. The cookie folder in profiles at this site is about 700Kb but size on disk was about 6.8Mb but all gone now

Hello, I have the same problems, user profiles are getting full up with pf*.tmp files (something to do with office) and thousands of cookies which are making profiles huge compared to normal (Size:83Mb, Size on disk:139Mb), I have the GPO setting that excludes some folders from roaming profiles but the ones it says are excluded by default are definutly not exculed, every other part of the GPO is working and this happens on 3 different sites that I work at. I have set up a test user and a fresh GPO and still the temp files and internet files are sent back to the server. Could your script be added to the log-off script in a GPO of each user or OU to delete the files before syncing back to the server or is the log-off script (applied by the GPO) loaded after the profile has been sent back to the server? Our pupil logons take about 1minute with a fresh profile but after a week its taking about 5-10minutes to logon. I know compared to some systems this is still fast but I have redirected the desktops, my documents, application data (all with offline access disabled) so the only files that are taking ages are the tmp files etc i guess. Another idea is, would changing all the profiles to manditory stop the temp files being written back to the server? Thank you for any help
