chazzy2501 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I just had a call to look at the Windows ME woodwork machine, I was presented with this message... 4760 Days!
CAM Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Literally the evolutionary dead end of Windows! MS screwed it up so much you cannot upgrade to 2000 from ME.
AJWhite1970 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 OMG, defrag it asap or performance will be terrible
Gatt Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I'm more impressed at the fact someone has managed to run ME for 13 years! Most were lucky to get 13 minutes! 1
chazzy2501 Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) You know, I'm leaving it down there. I just vacuumed the PC (was full of sawdust)... bring on 20 years... EDIT: Just a thought but the last time that drive was checked the pupils using it were born... Edited May 14, 2013 by chazzy2501
localzuk Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I'm more impressed at the fact someone has managed to run ME for 13 years! Most were lucky to get 13 minutes! I liked ME. It worked well for me for the 2 years I used it. Don't think I had to reinstall anything during that time!
Gatt Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I liked ME. It worked well for me for the 2 years I used it. Don't think I had to reinstall anything during that time! C'mon man - you're letting the side down!
sonofsanta Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 See if you can find a WinZip trial on it, so it can tell you that you're on day 4328 of your 30 day trial. 1
Chris_ Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I'm sure @SimpleSi has some primary schools with Windows ME 'servers'
jinnantonnixx Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Q. What's worse then Windows ME? A. Windows ME with Active Desktop. ***shudder*** 4
Gatt Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Hmm Windows ME Windows Vista Windows 8 Drop "Windows" and re-arrange to form: ME '8 Vista 1
SimpleSi Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'm sure SimpleSi has some primary schools with Windows ME 'servers' How dare you suggest that I'd use such a barbaric ancient system! I only use the best vintage Win98SE as file server VMs Simon PS Did ANYONE ever ever ever use Active Desktop or did we all just treat it as a virus when it magically popped into operation?
jumpinjamez Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Win98SE, now that was a solid build only saw blue occasionally. I went to ME from this for about a week then straight back 1
jinnantonnixx Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 .... Simon PS Did ANYONE ever ever ever use Active Desktop or did we all just treat it as a virus when it magically popped into operation? It was one of those things you didn't notice until you had the Big Yellow Triangle, and your desktop went south. Then you disabled it and that was 99% of people's involvement with Active Desktop.
john Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I liked ME. It worked well for me for the 2 years I used it. Don't think I had to reinstall anything during that time! Same for me my ME Laptop and Desktop were fine
nickbro Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 We've still got a windows 95 machine in DT, the miller can't be connected to anything better than windows 98 without buying a new one, and they don't use it much (once a year I think) Had windows me on my 2nd pc, it was ok, never had any issues with it. The pc couldn't handle XP when that came out though :-(
bigdenis Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Hi. I'm rookie here, but a long time rider in informatics, so maybe I can say some words: I was using Widows ME until 2011 in my school! Seriously! The reason was very simple - the poor hardware. Some old used machines from some countries. In the same room there were different machines with Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 7. True dreamland for teaching! :-) So generally speaking Windows ME was doing his job very nice, but today this is past - thanks a Good! I'm working now with licensed Server 2008 and Multipoint server 2011, but I'm fun of the old historical stuffs...you should see (and hear) students reactions when I'm showing them the first Windows!
mac_shinobi Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 didn't 'ME' stand for Mistake Edition? Malware Edition ?
FishCustard Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 We've still got a windows 95 machine in DT, the miller can't be connected to anything better than windows 98 without buying a new one, and they don't use it much (once a year I think) Why is that?! Driver issue? (oh god... drivers on Win 95, that brought back horrible memories) If it only does that then upgrading isn't much of an issue, I guess - the only issue would be hardware failure, but I suppose you can always transfer the machine image to something more modern. I wonder if 95 would run on a Core i-series...? As for ME, it was the OS on our very first home PC. Only issue I remember is a better-than-decent chance of a BSOD when installing pretty much anything, hardware or software!
