zag Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Does anyone know how to project to a screen from an iPad wirelessly? I've heard of different solutions but not quite sure if its reliable in a classroom. We have the Casio Bulbless projectors with HDMI ports so I think it should be possible with our current equipment?
Michael Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Have a look at Apple TV. This would plug into the HDMI port of your projector. Apple TV and your iPad then talk wirelessly via your Wireless Access Points (WAPs).

Michael Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 This is true. Apple offer only optical digital out. Without an amplifier with native optical digital in, or some form of converter to phono (left and right channels), getting sound out of it is problematic.

pslater Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Luckily the networked projector we have also has an iPad app. We find it useful to ask our guest speakers to install the app on their iPad or laptop etc before arriving. Only useful I guess if you have a Networked projector or are looking at getting one... otherwise I'd be looking down the Apple TV route.

We have the casio xj-m130s plug in an apple tv using HDMI and use the audio out jack on the projector to then either run phono into a set of speakers of jack to jack into the 2nd audio input of the promethean boards. Then just change the audio out on the projector to line out rather than speaker
mattysmith80 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We have VGA projectors and apple TVs set up, all you need to do is buy a simple adapter to go with it that takes the HDMI from the Apple TV and allows you to plug VGA and sound into the Apple TV... RichCowell Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 We use airserver here. Works well. Airserver started working well for us, we've also got two Apple TVs, but it's very hit & miss now... Sometimes they show up on the iPad, sometimes they don't... You can be in a classroom and it finds nothing, then walk down the corridor and it finds some/all... despite the wireless coverage being excellent everywhere... Not been able to find any reasons for this, but it's put a lot of people off using Airserver.
jon_nais Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 We are looking at rolling out appleTV's to most classrooms in our school. We currently have around 30 units out there at the moment. Though Apple TVs can be a bit flaky at times and can decide that they dont want to play with the wireless all the time. We also use some of the Kanex adpaters as linked above and we also use a lindy switch which takes an hdmi input (apple tv) and vga + audio feed from the pc and sends the output down VGA to the projector and gives an audio feed for an amp. Another option for the optical audio is to get a optical to rca adapater, about 20 quid off ebay. To remove as many HDCP issues the best option is to connect the AppleTV direct to the projectors hdmi port if it has one. We have stayed away from airserver as our PC's are wired and we wouldn't want them to be pulling everything over the wireless.

Any more information on licensing? A number of our computers are provisioned so this might prove an issue depending how it's handled, little information is given on the AirServer website. For sound, if you're using those casio projectors they have speakers built in, the audio goes over hdmi and works fine (well it did on the test unit I have here)

For sound, if you're using those casio projectors they have speakers built in, the audio goes over hdmi and works fine (well it did on the test unit I have here) Having contacted AirServer support they replied very quickly with what I expected having already looked into the Apple TV Route that is Yes it will support multiple Vlan networks but bonjour by default will be blocked, now at the stage of looking into this
