Not detecting keyboard after BIOS has loaded.

We have a XP machine that we use for one of the printers as it doesn't have 64 bit drivers, the printer is a LaserJet2600n, so if anyone knows where I find a driver to get it to work with our 2008 R2 server then that would be great.

 

Anyway, back on topic, it was working fine until recently, but now it isn't.

When I boot up I get the typically screen where it asks you if want to go into safe mode or boot windows in its last good configuration settings however the keyboard doesn't work at all.

 

So I am unable to choose these options and I've also tried changing the boot order to CD so I can get windows to repair itself but I need to hit a key for it to boot to CD.

 

I am able to use the keyboard in the BIOS and that's it. I have tried resetting the BIOS by moving the jumper from the 1st and 2nd pin on the MoBo to the 2nd and 3rd, etc but no luck with that. Any other suggestions on what I could do, and what I should do. I may just replace the machine with another windows xp machine and use that for the printer.

1. Where is the USB Keyboard connected on the Windows XP PC ?

 

* If the front then try one of the rear usb ports, if it is already connected to one of the rear usb ports ( try a different usb port - which obviously requires a reboot ). I normally try both of the USB ports that is generally directly underneath the onboard NIC connector.

 

2. You say you can get into the BIOS - are there any USB Settings to enable all usb ports, enable anything relating to USB mouse or keyboard anywhere in the BIOS ?

 

3. Have you tried a different USB Keyboard ?

Try the HP Universal Print Drivers (I think THESE are the right ones). We have them for a 2100TN and they seem to do the trick.

The BIOS usually has an option to detect/use USB keyboards or not, which by default is off (which I've never understood), turn it on.

I was going to try that but unfortunately there aren't any about.

I will have a look for that option now, thanks. I don't think there is an option for it but I'll check again for it.

If you can't see anything about Enabling USB Keyboards, check for a 'USB Legacy' setting and enable that, if it's disabled.

 

Older BIOS' used to use that as the default enable/disable.

Tried this type of driver and I am unable to print from 32bit clients (like the previous drivers i've tried) on the domain, so no luck there. I've had a look through this forum and noticed that other people are having hell with this printer too.

Thanks a lot! Managed to find it under a bunch of sub menus, it's silly how it's set to disabled by default.
