Look on Ebay, I saw the floppy drive for a few quid the other week.

I've made replacements by cutting down old 5.25" bay covers and glueing them into place.

We have had trouble getting them, Dell dont sell the blanking plates anymore.

What we did was bought a set of Dell card readers and fitted them in one of our labs this gave us some blanking plates. We got the card readers for about £12

Can ICT Direct maybe help you I know your a long way away but I am sure they could maybe do something to help. They helped me with a Dell DVD Drive frame for some machines without them that Dell wanted £100 a kit for!

Lucky, I've been campaigning for a 3d printer for a while, I want to 3D print a Halo Spartan armour costume. The models are avalible so they would be perfect - to scale :-)

Anyhow, on topic your metalwork department should be able to crank some out in plastic, either that or assign a few science teachers to make polymer casts of one as a project.

Personally I'd just super glue metal blanking plates on the back of the front plastic casing. I prefer to solve a problem permanently rather than perpetuate it by not addressing the inherent flaws in design, I.e. removable is a powerful suggestion in a school.
