It's quite inspiring to see all these tales of weight loss. I'll add my own much smaller tale:

Before collapsing with pancreatitis in mid-july, I was hitting the scales at 17st :-(

Now I've lost 2 and a half stones, down to a still heavy but much better than I was 14 and a half. This has come about through a big change in my diet after having my gallbladder removed (not only could I not each as much fatty or sugary crud, but I found myself simply not wanting that stuff anything like as much any more, or indeed wanting as much food in general). I'm still losing weight but much more slowly - all the easy gains have been made, I reckon!

Also, I go out walking 5 days a week, and do between 3.5km and 5 km on each of those walks. As I think I've said in another thread, this is a really nice gentle way to unwind away from technology after a busy day at work, and if I put music on I find I can get a pretty decent time (for a walker) on the walk too.

It's amazing how much better I feel these days in every way, both having my gallbladder out and losing weight afterwards has turned out really well for me... sometimes you don't realise how unwell and horrible you were feeling until you don't feel that way any more.

Amazing effort mate. Your "Then" and "Now" pictures should be an inspiration to us all.

I am still struggling to get past the 90Kg mark. Feeling good with amazing fitness (regular 100mile bike rides) and much more muscle than I had but some work still to go :)

Well Done.

Thanks David :-)

I've hit a bit of a plateau at the moment and am struggling to keep losing every week. It's still going the right way, just ever so gradually compared to how it was at the start of the year. One of my next targets is to get under 15 stone, but then I'll have a similar goal to you in trying to get under 90kg :-) I really need to up my exercise levels, but am really struggling to find the time at the moment.

It really is 70% diet 30% exercise...

I'm starting to set myself stupid goals now like "get abs" and the hardest part is sticking to the diet. I'm not eating as much as I should be doing and I just can't resist the odd cake and biscuit!!

I'm considering doing competitive weight lifting in order to keep me motivated. Gonna go and see what it is all about soon I think.

Definitely largely diet over exercise (I've done it the other way round and although I got a lot fitter, I didn't get anywhere near the weight loss I've had this time). You also have to be able to have the occasional blow out, or odd treat. If you constantly deprive yourself you resent it and makes you crave what you are depriving yourself of which makes it a lot harder.

Lifting weights in some form of competition, i'd imagine?? :p

I'm stepping up my "fitness" regime (use the term loosely atm) just started running again, but have to be careful of my shins. cold dark winter months may persuade me to get down to the gym too...

My problem is that I have lots of little naughty things through the week, then weekends I just do what I want... to be fair, I'm happy at the size I am now, but I won't reveal my abs continuing on this diet :-P

an example is today in the staff room we have: TGIF parkin, vegan flapjack and a tub of quality street.... how can one NOT peck!!!

I am still struggling with the aftermath of my foot op - have now been told that the arthritis in both feet will stop me doing any high impact cardio :( This time last year I was doing 4 classes a week and I am down to 2.

I hate the gym and worry about osteoporosis which requires weight-bearing exercise

It isn't fair - I worked so hard to get where I was and a few months down the line and it has all gone pear-shaped (I haven't, yet, but I am sure the time will come :( )

Rowing at the gym might be a possibility as it seems to be an all over workout which is what I need. I cannot bear the cross-trainer and cycling will just make my thighs even bigger than they are.

If you can afford it, get a personal trainer. I've learnt so much from him and they will be able to show you lots of effective exercises to do. Mine is £20 a session and I go once a week, so not too bad.

I did for a while but I wasn't that impressed. The issue is knowing what you can do with my condition and they really don't have that much experience. I have been doing this for SOOOOO long that I know pretty much all the basic exercises anyway. I could just do the gym routine but I..just..can't as I find it horrible. My problem, I know. I spent quite a lot of time doing exercise classes that I really didn't like and, being me, I just kept going but now I am determined only to do stuff I like.

If I could get mrwITch or someone to come with me it might be better

I had a lot of knee trouble and yoga helped me a lot - worth a try if there are some classes near you, otherwise get a dvd :) maybe the hubby will join in !

Yeah gym buddies for the win. I personally hate it, but the gym I go to have a "fanatics" page on facebook, where you can chat to other people who go. They all do my head in though to be honest! BUT, if I wanted to, I could probably find someone to join me at the gym if needed.

Yoga..hmm

I did it for a term and I am afraid it is just too slow for me. And I always tried to do what the instructor could do which of course often led to disaster..

My gym has started all sorts of HIT and Insanity classes and I really really want to do them. Not fair. At least I am trying to stay fit and healthy.

PS - I've got abs, too :)

down below 16 stone for the first time in too long. 1 stone 8 lost this year, bringing total weight loss to 8 stone since 2008 and the ballooning waist band of not being able to play rugby... Only another 2 stone to go!

Nah man, pilates is just like different poses! My PT had me doing them before... I was getting well annoyed because it was BORING AS HELL!

Another week, and another loss :-) 2.5lb's off this week at my WeightWatchers weigh in :-) Takes me to a total loss of 71lb's and my bmi has dropped below 27 for the first time ever :-) only 16lb's left until I become a WeightWatchers gold member and my BMI gets into the "healthy" range :-)

Nice! Well done.

I'm toying with the idea of competitive weight lifting to keep myself motivated... but don't know yet. We shall see.

TBF, boring it may be but if you thought it was just "poses" then you weren't doing it right - pilates is really tough if you do it properly - you should come out really aching and it is the quickest way to get those abs you want :)
