Sam_Brown Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Very well done! A December Marathon sounds rather painful... breathing in very cold air can do all sorts of damage :-/ Where abouts is it? Down in Portsmouth so not only is it in December but it's going to be on the south coast along the sea front as well! Glutton for punishment I guess!
bossman Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Sticking on 25lbs loss since New Year, only doing one class of pilate's per week which is more of a stretching core muscle workout. Swimming would be good but as the nearest Swimming complex is 10 miles away there is not the enthusiasm for travelling to swim especially when it is usually full of children and is really more of a fun complex than cater for actual swimmers (Wave machine etc etc). As my knee is goosed I can only walk at a certain pace and for a short period of time (Used to do 2 hours every evening approx 6 - 8 miles with an hour every morning) can no longer sustain this. I do sit ups and press ups every morning and that does give me a little shape but as for weight loss it actually increases with the creating of muscle mass. 15st 9lbs at the moment with a height of 5' 10" would love to get down to 13st 6lbs or less if possible without starving or crippling myself. BMI tells me I am actually obese but I cant see my way to getting into what they call the safe zone for my height which is at least 12st 7lbs at the top.

Ignore the BMI reading - as you are built like a...rugby player..BMI is not going to be an accurate measurement. What about cycling? That is what I have been advised to do because of my dodgy feet. It is less stressful on the knees, ankles and feet. I am trying to get up the enthusiasm to get a PT to help me with a weights regime. But I am scared to try as my elbows aren't great either. 1
Joanne Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 @bossman I get told that it is 70% diet, 30% exercise... and you definitely don't have to starve yourself, just eat plenty of the right things. Lean meats, lots of green vegetables and try and avoid sugar. Things like white bread contain a lot of sugar, as do sauces. No prepared meals, make everything from scratch and then you know exactly what it in it. Don't get me wrong... it's hard. Really hard. I've fallen off the wagon and I'm really struggling to get back on. It doesn't help when you live with someone who struggles to put on weight and has a mild addiction to fast food!! 1

As mentioned earlier (I think) in tread, I have achalasia, and having dropped from 16.5st (5ft7) to then about 12st, not being able to eat/drink much if anything, my then GP, having looked at charts said I'm still a fatty (not her exact words), and so wouldn't help with any supplements. I'm now at about 10.5st, and effectively skin and bone in places, lost lots of muscle, but according to BMI, Im just about right. I however don't look or feel right. As @witch has said, BMI don't take into account the build of body etc. 2
bossman Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Typical breakfast: 2 tbs Greek fat free yougurt 6 halves walnuts 1tsp Clear honey Lunch: Pasta with sardines or mackerel in tomato sauce or a fat free mugshot Dinner: Pasta dish or fish dish with potatoes and fresh veg I don't snack and drink black tea and coffee no sugar approximately 6 cups per day on average. I only have a drink on a weekend and lately that has consisted of one bottle of beer with my Sunday lunch. I would think I am eating around 1000 - 1500 calories per day I feel as if my metabolism has slowed to a standstill. Will be looking at bike riding and also get the walking backup to strength so watch this space Thanks everyone for the support
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I've pretty much stagnated on the weight loss front...not really lost anything since last october...a couple of pounds up and down most weeks. But as a positive, I haven't gained anything :-) It's been nice to maintain for a decent amount of time. Struggling to get the motivation to really push on and lose more weight to be honest, but I am still 70lb's down from when I started (November 2013) and 93lb's down from my heaviest ever weight and am now hovering around the 15 stone mark :-) Good to hear people still doing so well :-) 1
Willott Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 @bossman Are you having any physio etc for your knee? Drs are specifically targetting "obesity" so would be worth a go getting referral to physio etc to assist sorting your knee to allow you to do the exercise you want, may also be able to provide supports to enable more exercise. I've just bought a mini exercise bike for me to get some exercise done at home (not enough space for a full one) - only has a 2kg flywheel, so doesn't put a massive amount of pressure on knees, but can still get legs moving quickly enough to raise heart rate - also can use it on table top to exercise arms (which seems to increase heart rate quicker).
bossman Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 @Willott: Have had MRI scan which shows tears in the medial and lateral cartilage, consultant has stated it can be repaired but there is a chance they could make it worse and I am not willing to take that chance as the odds are not really that good. I have drawn up a walking exercise chart which will help and also as I have said in previous posts will up the Pilate's to 2 sessions per week (Time and money are the key factors) plus factoring in swimming if I can fit it in. @witch is perfectly right when she states I am built like a rugby player so people don't look at me and see an Obese person just broadly built with solid tree trunk legs hehe!
plexer Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I only have a drink on a weekend and lately that has consisted of one bottle of beer with my Sunday lunch. Terrible I need to plan a return visit But all seriousness you're doing well mate I'm sure with your perseverance and attitude you will achieve your goals. Ben 1
bossman Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Hey folks! Weigh in today and guess what? Iv'e hit my 2 stone loss target yeaaaaah! Next target is to get below 15st which is 6lbs loss bring it on!!! Happy as a pig in sh*t 4
featured_spectre Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Well done! I am 2.5lb on last night, however I have been ill and total loss whilst ill was 8.5lbs, so a net loss in the long term of 6lbs I am 3.5lbs away from my 3st mark 2
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Well done @bossman :-) 2 is an impressive amount lost :-) I put 2lb's on this week....can't work out why though :-( Working harder this week to get it off and more next week :-) Good luck getting your next 6lb's off :-) 1
Joanne Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I'm slowly creeping back on... I weighed and measured myself last Monday evening, so going to do it again tonight and see if there has been any difference. I did this stupid 'cleanse' thing over the weekend which involved drinking a pint of olive oil, lemon juice, cloves and black walnut and wormwood extract. Needless to say I WILL NOT be doing it again!
Roberto Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Just been reading some of the other stories here, very inspiring. Congrats on hitting your target Bossman When I last posted in October I had lost 2 and a half stones, down from 17 to 14 and a half. I'm now down to 13 stone. Probably still need to lose about another half to 3/4 of a stone and work on upper body condition but I'm feeling so much better than I was. July 2014 Feb 2015 (I've lost about 3 lb since this photo). I've seen someone else mention fitbit here - I've been using a fitbit band and logging my foods, exercise, etc. and I can't recommend it highly enough. I've not been on any kind of particular diet, just watching what I eat and thinking "sure you can have a treat now, but that's it for the day and you're going to need to make sure you don't miss your exercise routine too". Probably been walking about 30 miles in an average week according to the tracker - trying to do some big walks at least 4 times a week but always getting in a couple of miles a day. north-ict Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I have been eating crap lately (Was using the wolverine cosplay as a goal) so I have increased by a kg or so, but going gym so just making sure I keep going. Summers coming so I will use that as motivation so can wear T-shirts .
Joanne Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I see you like to give your bowels a bit of a challenge @Joanne! Like you wouldn't believe... although the epsom salt water was totally worse. Needless to say, I don't recommend it. No doubt my PT will say it 'hasn't worked' because I didn't stick to his meal plan before doing the cleanse, but yeah... just... no.

No doubt my PT will say it 'hasn't worked' because I didn't stick to his meal plan before doing the cleanse, but yeah... just... no. How did you go on with your comp? I'm trying to bulk but hardly ate this weekend as I've basically been hungover all the time. Need to hit 80kgs soon!
Joanne Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hey Patrick, I came 9th out of 15, so pretty good going for a n00b. My aim was to not come last! Hah. I posted some videos in the Cool things thread if you wanna see me bust a nut lifting 115kg! Hahahahahahah. 1
Patrick Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Made it look easy! 115kg is a serious amount! Better than all most all the guys in my gym. Seriously.
Joanne Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hahah, thanks! I'm kinda in a bit of a rut at the moment with my eating and my training has been sporadic because I've been feeling rubbish. My next comp is on the 3rd of May, so hopefully after the easter holidays I can knuckle down and get some serious lifting done! My aim is double my body weight for deadlift, 3 figures on my squat and just ANYTHING on my bench press!!!!
Patrick Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Feel your pain. My squat is poor, just recently stripped bar back down to 100kg just to clean my form up. A bit on the lanky side at over 6ft so my squats and deads are something I struggle with. I need to stop my cardio so my weight can balloon and get my strength up, but I'm torn between my swimming and weight training. Being in a rut sucks. What is your bench atm?
