SiliconAlley_Sam Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I keep forgetting about this thread :-( Last weeks weigh in I went to a total loss of 61.5lb's :-) (4 Stone 5.5lb's)...hoping to get another 1.5lb's off this week (weigh in tomorrow) to get to 4 1/2 stone :-) Geeez! How tall are you?
featured_spectre Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) In the nicest possible way and i don't wish to be rude, I dont think that's right. 17.6lbs in a week, that's over 1 kilo per day! General consensus is caloric deficit of 500 calories per day equates to a 1-2 lb per week generally but at a stretch 5 lb wouldn't be un-achievable (give or take depending on how high/low your BMI is to begin with). Again a 10lb weight gain in a single week would be insane. I think your first weigh-in must have been waaayyyy off which is causing the skewy results. I think most likely you've lost 8lbs over the two weeks (17.9 - 9.6). I don't wish to disparage as 8lb over 2 weeks is truly fantastic going, it really is so well done buddy @MrMat We checked on 2 sets of digital scales at each weigh in and took the average of the 2 (the weights were around 200 grams apart from each other) on the initial weigh in, and again at each concurrent one. And my starting weight was 26st 9lbs. My gym routine consists of the following Monday: Cardio - 20 mins walking at a brisk pace on fat burn setting, 40 minutes/8 kilometres which ever is sooner on the bike, 10 minutes/1.6kilometers rowing whichever is sooner. 5 minutes on the treadmill for warm down Tuesday: Rest day Wednesday: Weights - Arms, Chest and Abs Thursday: Weights - Legs, Abs, Back Friday: Cardio - 20 mins walking at a brisk pace on fat burn setting, 40 minutes/8 kilometres which ever is sooner on the bike, 10 minutes/1.6kilometers rowing whichever is sooner. 5 minutes on the treadmill for warm down Saturday & Sunday: Rest Day Edited August 11, 2014 by featured_spectre

As I said even a gain of 10lbs in a week is insane, especially following a week of over a stone weight loss. It doesnt really add up BUT who am I to argue Either way, awesome work dude.
Iain.Faulkner Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Geeez! How tall are you? I'm more or less 6' 2"....I had a starting weight of 20 Stone 1lb....still a fair way to go yet. My weight has more or less stabilised at the moment....struggling to make it my main focus at the moment, but want to get back on it in September when we get back into a more normal routine. Until then, I'll try my best, and hopefully lose a bit more, but the main aim for the next few weeks is to maintain what I achieved until this point.

Oh god, I've just realised that you meant an overall loss of 4 1/2 stone as opposed to that being your current weight! I was envisaging a Flat Stanley-eqsue character and was getting ready to organise an intervention. That's an amazing loss so far, well done!
featured_spectre Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) Todays exercise: 30 mins on the bike covering 8.51miles 5 mins on cross trainer covering 0.45 miles 15 mins on treadmill covering 1.3 miles 15 mins walking from gym to work covering 1.04 miles Total calories burned: 1633 (factoring in weight, height, etc) *edit* I am logging everything, food intake, drink intake, exercise etc, all through myfitnesspal.com and it is keeping a good track. Miscbrah Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Been solidly bulking since early spring, definitely time for a cut I decided! Got up to 95kg just before August, bench was 110kg for sets. No squats or DLs currently as my hip's hosed, and even running too much on it is testing it, so save that for Muay Thai and crosstrainer does most cardio. Current weight 90.4kg (last night.) Got a BMR of 2000 cals, so pretty much eating that. Routine is weights (about 40min to 1hr) and cardio: Monday - International chest day. Cardio (400 cals) Tuesday - Shoulders day. Cardio (400 cals) Wednesday - Back (bleh) day. Cardio (400 cals) Thursday - Arms day. Cardio (400 cals) Friday - 2hrs Muay Thai (1billion cals) Rest weekends, one cheat mean Saturday. Das it mayne

Das it mayne Niiiiice! Although I don't see a leg day...Edugeeks don't let fellow Edugeeks skip leg day! I'm in a bulking phase too and as of yesterday I'm weighing 15 stone 2 lbs (96.5kg) at 5ft 10. Will keep going for another month or two then do a bit of recomp to get the BF down and then bulk again! My routine is pretty similar: Monday - Chest Tuesday - Back Wednesday - Shoulders Thursday - Arms Friday - Rest (Unless i decide to go gym anyway) Saturday - Whatever I fancy, sometimes rest or if something isn't tender I'll hit that again Sunday - legs Currently eating 3000-3500 cals per day split over 4-5 meals. I'm getting there, slowly but surely...
featured_spectre Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 When I do weights, I do a full body workout...chest, arms, back, shoulders, legs, abs then have a rest day the day after

Miscbrah Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 HAhahah thanks guys! I've got 'average' legs from martial arts and on/off training, but a knackered hip at the moment that I'm definitely resting up. Muay Thai and gentle running is all it's got and is SLOWLY improving. Squats WERE at 95kg for sets and DLs at 130kg for sets, but grip always let me down before legs did. Only want to get up to 93kg lean so I can compete at light heavyweight in Sanda. Lol at SOME point, lord knows when.
featured_spectre Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 All of my competitions were light heavyweight until I hit around 16 and started doing rugby in full force also. Ended up going to superheavyweight catagory, and still kicking backside. Shame I can't now
MrMat Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Only want to get up to 93kg lean so I can compete at light heavyweight in Sanda. Lol at SOME point, lord knows when. My goal is a little odd. I want to get to the point where theoretically if i was 0% bodyfat (ignoring the fact that I would be dead) my BMI would still say that I was 'overweight'. Healthy/ideal weight at my height is between 59kg - 80kg. Theoretically at 0% now I would weigh about 75kg. That leaves me with 5kg of lean mass to gain! This is mainly just a way for me to track lean mass gains but it's also to help make the point that BMI is an archaic and essentially broken form of measurement!
featured_spectre Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 BMI is definitely broken. I have dense bones (not big bones, but dense bones) from years of breaking blocks, bricks, tiles, wood etc with my hands/arms/shoulders/feet etc. The average weight of the skeleton for a 6ft adult weighing in at 90kgs, is around 3.7kgs. My bones when I was 16 (5ft 10, 90kgs) however are much denser and were around 5.1kg. Not sure what they are now as I am 160kgs and 6ft, so I can only assume maybe another couple of kgs on top to accomodate the extra mass I am shifting. However, I do not detract from the fact that I am obese, and I am working on it. Fat ratios are going down however, my starting BMI was 52.3, and today when measuring I am 48.7.
Miscbrah Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 All of my competitions were light heavyweight until I hit around 16 and started doing rugby in full force also. featured_spectre Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Jujitsu and Aikido (4th dan in both respectively). I trained from 5 years old, and I dabbled in Tang Soo Do (got to Orange Belt, green tag)
visioN Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Agree BMI is not that accurate. I'm 6"1 and 85.55KG which gives me a BMI of 24.8 (Healthy) So apparently if I weigh 86.6 my BMI is 25.1 and I am over weight. In the last 7 days I've had Wednesday footy training, Saturday 11 a side game (90 mins), Sunday 11 a side game (90 mins), Tuesday 5.1 mile race. I could easily put on a KG in muscle just doing less cardio and become "over weight"
SiliconAlley_Sam Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Back on the running tonight after a few weeks rest having knackered my knees. Time to factor in some rest days and some resistance work I think. Turns out running every day (having previously done none at all) isn't particularly clever.
pooley Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 After finally retiring from rugby in April (the wife made me, i'm too old apparently, 39yrs old now) I gained about a stone in flab, even taking into consideration i took up cycling as a hobby (poor diet can't be fixed in the gym). Then 2 weeks holiday on a Cruise ship added another 8lbs!! So over the last 4 weeks I have started eating clean and going to the gym, i'm following the 5x5 Stronglift program, not easy while on a calorie deficit but I have made some good gains over the last few weeks. Not shifted loads of weight though, maybe 6lb total, but my clothes are starting to fit me again now so thats al tat really matters. Will be back on my bike this weekend, a 50 mile charity ride I signed up for in June has sneaked up on me (2 weeks away) so i'd best put some training in for that too. So I hope to drop another half stone by the end of September and then just maintain my exercise and re-evaluate where I am come Christmas.
MrMat Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 (poor diet can't be fixed in the gym) Truer words are rarely spoken! Good luck mate
SiliconAlley_Sam Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Just one lbs off of my lowest weight of the year! For anyone that does struggle with weight loss or exercise motivation I honestly can't recommend the Fitbit or anything similar enough. I've gone from a coach potato to someone who now finds it frustrating to sit still for long periods of time. I spend my lunch hour walking rather than internet shopping, I'm running 4/5 times a week, I have more energy and I'm (more or less) in a permanently good mood. Previously I've only ever managed to keep myself motivated to exercise for a few weeks at a time but I've been at this now for 2 and a half months and still going strong. Hitting your daily step target is such a satisfying feeling, smashing it feels even better!
featured_spectre Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Broke my own record at the gym...personal best is 34kms in 60 mins (before today)

Your body needs time to recover and repair any damage done. Run every other day and if you really need to do something in between then try swimming or just some light gym work.

Yeah, I've switched to every other day now and go for a relatively chilled dog walk on my rest days. Knees are feeling so, so much better.
