What you guys using as your fire proof safe

Looking to store backup tapes in it.

 

Anything I should look out for ? Any recommendations?

Something that is also heat proof. It might be fireproof but you dont want the tapes inside to melt.

We have 2 safes from a company called Phoenix Phoenix Safes Ltd | fire safes, data protection safes, burglary safes and fireproof cabinets safes are suitable for magnetic storage and digital - not cheap and not light but most definitely worth it!

Fire/smoke resistant for 60 - 90 minutes, or 90 - 120 minutes, ...

Around 60 minutes protection is what we are looking for.

I would install it on the ground floor. If its on the first floor and it collapses in the fire, the tapes inside might get damaged in the fall.

We have had a phoenix one for about 10 years.

 

Not realy needed thes days but we use it anyway.

Phoenix here too. 4621. Plenty of room inside but don't be fooled by the external size. The internal space available is much less due to th fireproofing.

Can agree on Phoenix safes for your needs, not cheap but well worth it.

Probably doesn't have them. We dont use them anymore.

As @FN-GM says these days unless we have to I don't recommend tapes to any client.

We have 2 schools 5 miles appart and a 1Gb link.

 

Site A backs to Site B to disk and then on a friday to tape

Site B backs to site A to disk and then on friday to tape

 

So the tapes and HDD backup is alread 5 miles from the data,

 

We only take the tapes out incase of a 2 site fire ( Highly unlikly! ).

I ordered a Sentry QE5541 Data Storage Fire Safe from Home Safes, Fireproof Safes, Chubb Yale Burton Phoenix Safe. FREE Delivery

Works OK day to day and has a USB port to link to an internal USB drive which is quite cool (but sadly I have never set it up though!).

Not had a fire, flood or pestilence yet, so can't tell you how good it is!

Not direct here. Bought through a supplier - delivered and placed (ground floor). Good service. I won't name the supplier in this post - not sure what the rules are around here, but I'll happily let you know if you send me a PM.

Pretty sure I got our Phoenix safe direct. Delivered by a couple of great guys who put it exactly where we wanted it. I think ours is 2 hours for fire. My understanding is that you need to ensure that all keyholders are informed of the safe and its location, so in the case of fire, they can tell the fire brigade to make it a priority.
