Visualisers...

We're looking at getting some more visualisers. We have some Elmo ones which work fine in the KS2 end as the pc's are plugged into the HDMI ports so the VGA port is free for the visualiser.

 

KS1 isnt so lucky and only have a VGA port for the PC. This leads to a lot of faffing of having to unplug the VGA and messing with splitters etc...

 

Does anyone know of a model that may make things a bit easier. Thinking about it i could use the USB functionality so they run via the PC instead of straight through to the projector, but still thought id put the feelers out.

A Lot of visualiser you can purchase have built in splitters.

We have Elmo L1-ex, Think they have passthrough.

 

We tested them against AVER and the AVER software was just too clunky and difficult to give to staff.

we have the Avervision cp130,

 

We use the USB to connect them to the computers. Means no changing of wires etc.

Masses of Aver models here; the VGA passthrough is handy but it does require the unit to be on, which causes some initial confusion. Nice units though, and staff and students love them.

I've seen/used many Genee Vision 7100's. They're pricey but reliable and have built in VGA splitters.

+1 for these. £99 each and do the job. Plug into a usb port, so no need for passthrough or any of that. Resolution is pretty good if you change it drom the default 640 x 480.

 

If you get a pack of 6, you get free talking point recorders.

Was gonna say, why bother at all with VGA visualisers? Seem a bit pointless to me, surely?

We've never had many problems that weren't caused by some sort of user error. [power got turned off = blown board, people being rough = lamp arms broken]

 

 

The only problem I have with them is that the lamp arms have LEDs on a board instead of bulbs. [We've has a few LEDs go/flicker]

 

But, for the most part, they're good.

For the boards or individual LEDs?

 

I've been swapping out the boards... I swear, I'm going to pap someone in the face if you can do the LEDs individually.

Was just going to order some AverVision ones but after finding out the classes had been quite happily using our MS webcams (that we should be using for animation anyway) changed my mind and we should save a bit from my budget. We do have AverVision visualisers in other classes and they have been Ok, just a web cam and a flexible camera mount that clamps to the table is one heck of a lot cheaper!

Then the users will be able to pass them around desk to desk? Great for the kids and on saves the wiring and splitters? :-)
