laserblazer Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I'm useless. I can be with a class one lesson, an hour later, I have one of them in the medical room and I cannot remember thir name. They all look the same to me!
MatthewL Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 It's the same with me with our staff, Nurses are the worse when in uniform never remember who is who!
6Foot2 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 With 1,200 students [most of whom I never see] I don't remember their names either. But I am off to a bad start as remembering names and faces is not one of my strengths.
jedmondson Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I help run a scout group and have done for the past 5 years. I still mix up some of there names.
synaesthesia Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Absolutely terrible here. The majority of names I know are trouble makers/problem causers. Thankfully there's a few I know who are otherwise exceptional so have a good reason for remembering their name
hardtailstar Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I only remember names if I come into direct contact with them more than once, other than that I try to stay away from the classes/clubs so I can get on with my work.
speckytecky Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Same problem for me - and we have only got 70! It's the ones who stand out from the crowd (have come to my notice through missdeeds, have outstandingly strange behaviour or just plain look odd - with a styled haircut for example) that I remember - so, that's about a dozen of them at the most. Gets a bit embarrassing sometimes when the teaching staff assume that I have picked up the names!
Netwacky87 Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I only rememeber the naughty one's lol or I know them oddly by their usernames...
laserblazer Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 But they all recognise me! If I go into town at the weekend, I try and make it first thing whilst they are still tucked up in bed. I had to pop down for something this afternoon and there was a hoard of them messing about in the precinct and getting filthy looks from the shoppers. They see me and all call out "HELLO MR B". Said shoppers then stare at me as if I'm responsible for the little tow-rags!
Devontechie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) When I was working in Education, I could remember a fair few of the kids names at first school, was there over 8 years! Second school, only knew the trouble makers and the really good kids (ones that was interested in IT). I had same problem with the kids knowing who I was. Used to get loads of them saying hello in the street! Some of the still do even thou I am not there anymore and they have left school! Edited November 10, 2012 by Devontechie
FN-GM Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 At the time i was 18 - 19 working in a school. I went to a party once and discovered half of year 11 where also there. Somehow i remembered all those names!
GeeHubb Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Our Headteacher knows the name of every single one of our 310 pupils. I don't know how she does it, she only has to meet them once or twice! I know quite a few of the names, mainly the older ones and the 'characters'.

They only have to meet a child once to remember their name, or so it seems. I wish I could do it. I'm fairly rubbish with names.
bossman Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Students! What Students! Do we have students at our school? I wouldn't know! We have lots of IT equipment that I know the name of every little item, why? because that's my job that's why and that is why all HT's know the name of everyone of their students and staff because that is their job. Horses for courses! I don't ever intend to learn student names because I can always ask them.....................or look them up in the Sims because I never forget a face! And you are???? clareq Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I don't even know all the teachers names! In my defence we are a very large school, with over 200 staff, and nearly 2000 students.
SYNACK Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I don't even know all the teachers names! In my defence we are a very large school, with over 200 staff, and nearly 2000 students. I don't know lots of the teachers names either, I do work in multiple schools though. Always asking what their username is as a workaround I used to know most of them but there was a large amount of staff turnover for a while and I just gave up.
Trapper Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Not a clue apart from a few who I get on well with in Year 10. We only have 120 odd kids, but I barely spend time in classes. My techie however knows everyone's name. Very useful!
john Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I maybe know 10% of the students, its usually the excelent or the bad that I remember but also remember some with unusual hair styles etc... I am spending quite a bit of time with younger students recently so am remembering them better than the older ones.
jamesfed Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I know the names of about 3 of the IT club members (about 20 students) but the other 810 are unkown to me! Now when it comes to Air Cadets I know most of their names and even some of the ones from other units.
localzuk Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I'm more likely to remember someone's admission number than their name...
glennda Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I would say i didn't know names there was some which regularly visited i remembered usernames but apart from that no!
Ketlane Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Let's all be grateful we can remember at least some names! Oliver Sacks' book The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat makes you think, and the rare people who suffer from prosapognosia must have a very difficult life!
laserblazer Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 I'd never heard of prosopognosia but I googled it and did this test Visual and Face Recognition Tests on the Internet I got 52% of the people I had heard of, which indicates a problem. Mind you, I seldom watch US movies and some of the images were not good. I didn't get Tony Blair, and still couldn't see it once I knew who it was!
6Foot2 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 ...this test Visual and Face Recognition Tests on the Internet I got 52% of the people I had heard of... I took the test and surprised myself: http://snag.gy/9ufMG.jpg I would have thought it would have been possible to have the test decide if you were right rather than leave it to the user when a reply is entered?
DrCheese Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 I only tend to remember the names of the bad ones, as they are the ones that crop up constantly in documentation or CCTV requests =/ It's not great!
