Best way to set up papercut client around a CC4 network

Hi gorgeous peeps,

 

Looking at papercut as we would love to introduce "follow me printing" to reduce wastage. We are a CC4 network, but would like to ditch the RM printer credit system. Is there anyone that has gone down the same route and did you package up the client to distribute or as it can be a zero install running from a network share, how did you actually go about it within via the RMMC?

We run Papercut on a CC4 network. We originally set it up with the zero install option, but if a wireless machine goes to sleep or hibernates the connection to the server drops and the program crashes. This prevents printing until the laptop is logged off and back on. The msi provided can be distributed through the RMMC without any alterations. You can then set the program to run at logon through the registry settings in the Console.

Obviously you have to use Papercut's interface to add print credits, rather that the RMMC.

We run the client direct from the server at login. However over time during the day it can crash requiring a logoff and back on to kick start it again. Any job submitted during the crashed time sits in limbo as it doesn't know who to bill to until the client is restarted. Edited November 6, 2012 by t4ll1f3r

We ran PaperCut on a CC4 network. I think it disabled the RM printer credits services. I ran the client from a the network share, and like others just edited the registry policies to run it on logon (minimized for staff and open for students).

The MSI is only a recent addition I believe. I run it from a share. Has worked fine, so far, and touch wood.

Thanks my friends - As Clareq mentioned, the only down side to the network share is being reliant on an active connection for laptops a CC4 package (which if the msi needs no doctoring) sounds like the ideal way to go, especially if our photography department use 16 laptops!

I doubt PaperCut would disable the RM printer credits services. I have seen CC4/PaperCut installs with both services running (even if the site wasn't using the printer credit service)

 

You have various options to use the client but the most popular would be the local cache version and as of 12.4 the MSI. These details are outlined here:

So I am trying to deploy PaperCut Client over a CC4 Network, but it doesn't package up. The MSI uses the .exe file and the .exe file uses a .dll file.

 

Is there a way to package up the client nicely and deploy it?

I'm sure we used to just use pc-client-admin-deploy.msi to deploy.

It uses more than just the .MSI, when you try to install the .msi in a separate folder, it asks for for other files.
