I used to live in the West Country before moving up (not too far from you, incidently), and we used to take regular trips to Cheddar Gorge to stock up.. Now that was the sort of stuff that sticks to the roof of your mouth, and combine it with Marmite... it was just about heaven....

Aldi does a good one that knocks your socks off and I've seen a welsh one with a picture of a coal miner on the packet which is pretty strong too. There is a cheese shop in Preston that sells farm-made cheeses and they have some great strong ones!
