hit Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 My question that I need to ask is how to get from City to the Docklands and vice-versa, as whilst I am here I want to do some site seeing etc, but also I am either catching the Train to Paddington or the Bus to Victoria. As I have heard about some maintenance work etc I don't want to get confused. Cheers Tom Tfl.gov.uk is your friend, planned works can be found here Planned works calendar | Transport for London

At Baker Street change to the Jubilee Line and go to Canning Town From Victoria: Walk to Victoria Tube Station. Take Victoria Line to Green Park Underground Station. Take Jubilee Line to Canning Town. I would also follow @elsiegee40 post above (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/102901-bett-2013-a-9.html#post915207) and get the DLR from Canning Town to West Silvertown and walk over the foot bridge to Excel - West Silvertown to ExCeL London - Google Maps Edited January 12, 2013 by Devontechie 2
tomgrindle Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Brilliant, thanks all ... gotta say it's the first time I've been to London without any guidance from people that know where they're going. We own a Coach Company and I have been to London many times but maybe I should have paid a bit more attention, and this time I don't particularly want to bring Dad with me this time as my personal SatNav
witch Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Right - all train tickets booked! Looking forward to it 1
elsiegee40 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 There is a bus station right outside Canning Town tube. There may be a bus going direct to ExCeL which you would be able to use a Travelcard on... if it's there get that rather the DLR.
witch Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 There is a bus - when we went to the Star Trek convention the train was not running and we were directed to a bus outside the station. We walked though. It would be nice if people could wear a badge with their edugeek name on! I find people work out who I am very quickly, due no doubt to my gender, age and hair colour, and I get greeted enthusiastically by people who think I know who they are. Heads up, guys, I don't - even if I have met you once before. Some of you, of course, I can't forget... 1

Heads up, guys, I don't - even if I have met you once before. Some of you, of course, I can't forget... Even a picture of your avatar will help. It is hard to remember people's real names, I find. There are several on here who I've known for a long time whose posting name comes to me first even though I know them and their proper forename. (Even you @witch ) PS My forename isn't Elsie, but I answer to it Edited January 12, 2013 by elsiegee40
witch Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Yes, me too. I do think of you, @elsiegee40 by your real name but @plexer and others tend to stick in the mind rather than the real name. Of course in some cases - @vikpaw, @Ric_ and others, know the edugeek name and you know the real name!! (less fun though) I also answer to Witch
john Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 The key to success is learning to look down at visitor badges without being spotted that way you can spot real names and schools and hope it makes some form of connection... Maybe write your EG name on your visitors badge so we can join them up that way? 1
plexer Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Yeah we started putting edugeek names on badges. Ben
witch Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Problem is @john (now what was your real name again ? ) is that some people's names are completely unknown to me so there is no connection to be made!
GrumbleDook Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) There is the same problem with twitter as well. A few years ago one friend booked two badges, the second one with his twitter ID ... and so people were able to connect Drew to @ digitalmaverick ... the next year some folk had their twitter IDs on t-shirts. There are extreme cases when people resort to becoming their avatar (Facepaint Friday!!!! must poke @Domino to bring along the kit!) Edited January 12, 2013 by GrumbleDook 2
witch Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Some would say that I don't need facepaint to be my avatar
vikpaw Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Will be attending for a day, first time and all. Will there be pizza? No pizza we're all grown up now. If you're lucky the Smoothies will have sweets and cakes. Any idea what stand is Edugeek this time? The fun corner of B290. He's my "apprentice" And he's only been once so far, but will be attending again this year. EDIT And he does work for me in the holidays. He's quite a handy junior tech ^ I read that as 6th former abuse. Well that is me booked up at the Novotel London Excel for 2 nights and return flight with BA, have had to book a taxi to the hotel as I can only get a flight to London Heathrow from Newcastle at the time specific to my requirements. School has paid obviously See all you IT bad boys n girls down there. Oooh Novotel - that's expensive. You can host us in the bar for a few hours. C U there 2
elsiegee40 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 ^ I read that as 6th former abuse. @vikpaw... he's been my apprentice since long before he went into sixth form. He doesn't regard it as abuse. Somehow I see IT as being his career choice!

SYNACK Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Maybe the stand needs a 'demo' label printer to spit out handy stickers with avatar and username. 2
elsiegee40 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Maybe the stand needs a 'demo' label printer to spit out handy stickers with avatar and username. .. and you need to find a way to convince your school that a trip to BETT would be good for them! 2
Mullaney18 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) I went last year and signed the poster this year the boss, deputy and ICT curric manager are coming with. I would grumble but shes paid for first class train Question, are you guys selling Merchandise at your stand? Edited January 13, 2013 by Mullaney18 Appaling Englisch

X-13 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 If I remember correctly I was manning the fort when you came to sign the poster last year Indeed. TBH, when [someone] turned up and you started chatting to them while in the middle of saying hey, I was all 0_0 then wandered off...
