I normally disable the auto-updater in the Customization Wizard because it's extremely unlikely we would ever need to enable it again. I have never had any issues doing it that way.
stylemessiah Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Now that Firefox v19+ has PDF reading built in, im on the war path to get rid of the sceurity issue that is Adobe Reader, im on a warpath against Java as well, and plan to remove that as well. Just use Foxit, it has been a better solution than Acrobat for years now, MSI deployable to with no hoop jumping like Adobe.
jaminben Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I'm having issue's trying to stop Adobe Reader XI from updating. I've used the Adobe Customization Wizard to create my .mst and when I check the registry after deployment I can see that bUpdater is set to 0 (disable updates) but for some reason it still updates!!! Anyone got any ideas?

Michael Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I have it deployed to at least one Sims school. The only issue I've had is with HR Portal (provided by Birmingham LA), which I have notified them about. Other than that testing with other websites has worked fine. It's been out since early Spring 2015 and probably has better sandboxing than Adobe Reader 11. Users also find it easier to open recently used PDFs too.

Our staff have Acrobat DC rather than Acrobat Reader DC (since we have Creative Cloud), but no one has reported any issues with that when used with SIMS.

LeMarchand Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I tried not installing Reader on Win8 machines as the built-in reader will open pdfs, but it didn't work well as lots of the sites teachers/assistants like to download from didn't seem to recognise MS Reader . Wonder if Edge will fare better? I'd like to be able to get rid of at least one bit of Adobe software this year.
