Top choice for new ICT Suites

Weve been using Lenovo ThinkCentre's for some time but we are planning a new ICT Suite.

 

What is everyones first choice of make and model when planning new Suites?

DIY every single time. Save so much money that way.

 

That said, i know many schools feel they don't have the time or resources to be doing that so in that case, these: "Nano 110i" Intel Core i3 3.10GHz Dual Core System [] with what i think are optional VESA mounts, attached to the backs of some nice 24" monitors.

 

Or a more recent one we've tried is these: Novatech All-in-One Monitor Stand | NOV-MSAIO with these: The Novatech Pro NSI05 plus a nice 24" monitor

I'm quite 'vocal' on the boards about how much i like VeryPC.

 

Their warranty is strong, the build quality is excellent and they are decent people which also helps!

I know that we've supplied some of our hardware to an RM managed school this summer, as I was dealing with providing advanced imaging units, so that RM could capture the driver/OS sets..

Do they have height adjust? - Our top seller this summer was Green PC Computers | Low Power PC Servers | Eco PC Servers | VeryPC - Similar to the Optiplex 7010 but the monitor mounts to the SFF desktop. It means you can get height adjust, tilt and pivot on a low cost or existing monitor.

 

Are dell supplying SSD at a reasonable cost now or are you sticking with HDD?

We've gone with Stone and Novatech in the past, but any of the custom build ones tend to be the best value for money - VeryPC are, obviously, spoken of highly 'round here, and Zoostorm are available through a number of resellers now (although the jury is still out on them).

 

Ed:it @VeryPC - have you read the comments on that video?

I'm a big fan of Viglen machines, and HP machines. Both have served me well.

Can't compete with Dell on what? Price? Product features? Support? Any chance of expanding upon your post? I think VeryPC have come on a long way and could perhaps do a counter proposal on the board for a like for like Dell quote? I've seen quotes for their Flex All-In-One with a 21" hard glass monitor that beat the Stone Unistand with monitor and USFF PC recently which was impressive considering Stone can print replicated Windows COAs.

Bit of everything (maybe price not). One thing for example i can do with a Dell is manage the BIOS via SCCM.

I've been using Thinkcentres as well.

Our thin clients are self-build.

Over the years we've used PC's from Acer, Toshiba,Apple, Dell, Samsung. Hand on heart: Lenovo build quality support and warranty is the best we've come across. The extended 3-yr onsite warranty usually costs around £30 but when we've needed it we've had an engineer onsite with the correct parts the next day.

We've just bought five - hopefully we'll get them set up in the next couple of days. They are, overall, good machines - we can re-use our current monitors, and they are a good price. We haven't had them in classrooms / teaching rooms yet, I've just got one set up on my desk ready to sort out an image, but a couple of points:

 

The marketing image shows USB and audio ports in a slot in the front of the case. Ours come with a hole that's been patched up on the front. The USB and audio ports aren't far away, just round the left hand side of the case, but it's bound to puzzle some users. There's no SD / other card slot in the machine (it might be available as an option).

 

They do still need several cables. There's a neat-looking cover on the end of the case where the cables come out which keeps everything reasonably tidy, but that cover seems a bit delicate and liable to pop off if you have a decent number of cables in the back.

 

I got these machines in the hope they would be able to use both their graphics ports so we could use them to drive a SMARTBoard's projector as well as a monitor. Windows 7 doesn't recognise a second monitor plugged in - I need to look at this a bit more, but it seems you can't attach two monitors at the same time.

At Magna we're an all HP house, (77/78/79/8200 Elite Ultra Slim...) with Ag Neovo monitors (U-17) and NEC Projectors. Good bits of Kit!

RM took over our LEA support, so they know when we try to get other companies in to supply computers.

 

Then suddenly, the other company isn't interested.

Dell prices might as well not be there. We pay a fraction compared to the website price.

Still using lenovo, wouldn't go back to anything else, had a batch of acers and a batch of HP's over the years but the lenovo's still out live the others, and warrenty support has been the best.
