unixman_again Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Does anyone know of software that actually works properly? Linux or Windows we don't mind. We have developed a series of training videos using Wink (software we like) which outputs swf suitable for chucking on a website. We also want to put the videos onto our streaming media server, which handles every format except for swf. All the swf conversion software that I have tried forgets to include the sound with the avi, etc produced or it buggers up the picture by blurring it or gets the sound in the wrong place. Please don't supply me list of links found via google; Swf To Avi Converter and the other freely available ones simply don't work. I hope that somebody has actually used something successfully. Getting the picture into avi is very easy; it is nearly always the sound the doesn't get there properly, and we don't want to redub the narration onto the avi. Thanks!

shenley Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Just like you, I've found that none of the free solutions work. We purchased a package that was "guaranteed to convert swf to avi" (I forget which one). Anyway, it was a waste of money - it didn't work and I chucked the CD in the shredded in disgust! The only way I was able to this under M$ was to play the swf file using my favourite web browser and capture the video and audio using Camstudio. Now if you try to record your speaker output in Camstudio, you'll see an error message, which says WaveoutGetSelectControl() not found or something. Most of the advice on the web about how to fix this, says you need to change your sound card to the Sound Wave XL 7000 GTi Turbo, or some other outrageously priced noise maker. Nup! If your PC can play sound, you can do it. If you hunt around on youtube, you'll find a 10 minute video with lots of annoying SlipKnot music, which will tell you how to fix the Camstudio error. Don't bother watching the video (which is why I haven't posted the link). He tells you only two useful things. Thing 1 - in control panel, set your default recording device to mixer. Thing 2 - in Camstudio use record from microphone (yes I know!). Voila! Fire off Camstudio, select record window, play the swf and save the avi file. If you then want to do another video, you'll probably have to reboot your PC. I do as it is so damn full of memory leaks. 1

The downloadhelper for Firefox did not recognise swf and the method supplied in #6 looks way to complicated and I have my doubts that it would work correctly. Dubbing the audio on afterwards could be done without going through all that rigmarole. Camstudio worked perfectly after I had done the two things that you mentioned.
