Now I'm finding the stable version will run on the terminal server and will import, but then none of these imported e-mail addresses are actually showing up in the SIMS staff records...

Got it to the stage where it'll import (type initialiser error with the previous SIMS user), but if they've already got an e-mail address it won't overwrite Main and Primary.

(Sorry for all the posts...)

Sounds like you need to set the email location - home\work\other.

the issue with the crashing is it's waiting on the sims api/business objects to return the data, in that version i think it was only one thread so it appears to crash, I'd recommend importing a year group at a time and being very patience, SIMS isn't known for its speed!!

I had it set to Work, Overwrite Main, Overwrite Primary.

In the end I set it to Work, Overwrite Main, No Primary and then went through them all setting the Primary value. We're alright now.

Thanks for the assistance :)

Problem with the overwriting the primary\main is the darn SIMS API, its basically a two step process, one unset the primary\main on the current one, THEN input the email\telephone (as primary\main). It's on my future list, its just not very high I'm afraid on my To-Do

Hi @matt40k is there a limit to the number of records you can import? Mine keeps crashing out after it has read about 30 lines - this is pre - import when it goes through and checks the data against the Sims record...

Any ideas?

Cheers

Nope, no limit. I've had a few thousand without any problems. Check the log file, might give a clue to why its crashing out.

Error: System.InvalidOperationException: "An ItemsControl is incosistent with its items source."

I have 7 separate files - (one for each year group) the error is the same no matter which file I try and it always errors on the 34th record.

Just come across this tool. Must have been living in a cave!

I trying to import students email addresses.

My test student imports ONLY if I leave the 'main' field at default.

What should the spreadsheet contain in the 'Main' column when its imported? is it a '1' , 'yes' or 'y'

Do I really need to set it as main? only reason I am trying to do it is because the all the other student records contain it.

Cheers

Do you mean a second pass with the import or did you manually set the work emails as primary? I'm having the same problem trying to get 200 staff email addresses imported :(

Hi Mtt, i found your thread when I was looking for help importing user logins into a Sims udf but the link no longer works. Is it still available somewhere - it looks incredibly useful. thank you

Nope. Capita killed it off when they said whoever took it on would get slapped with a large licensing bill. Few copies floating around you could try but yer... no comment, big disclaimer.

Dear Colleague,

Capita SIMS are investigation how we can make the process of bulk importing Student’s Email and Telephone numbers into SIMS a better experience then the currently provided patch process. We have an idea how we are going to solve this, but would like to have the opportunity to discuss this with a selected group of people that represent SIMS users. The meeting will be limited to around 10 people to make sure everyone is at ease commenting on the proposed solution.

Date and Time: Thursday 19th December 14:00

This will be really useful for us. This is preventing a lot of O365 integration. If you or anyone is attending I'll be very interested in the outcome.

Glad they are finally integrating it into SIMS - it’s only taken them over 7 years. Tis a shame they didn’t allow SalamanderSoft to take it over. Think it would have made a lot of their paying customers happy. Oh well. Be interested to hear how people find it - I would expect them to have a fairly polished version they are going to demo tomorrow. Hopefully it’s worth the wait and money!
