Little-Miss Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hey, As you can imagine, we've learnt a lot from the fire. One thing is a good asset register! I'm not talking just IT, i mean every little bit of furniture! So, i've been looking around for some kit. WASP stuff is way out of our league. We only have a little budget. I've found a company that will do the security bar codes for items like the IT stuff, but these are a little OTT for desks etc. So does anyone do it a certain way at their place or could possible recommend something. Can someone recommend a barcode printer maybe?

My collegue who will be managing the overall assest register would like something a little more robust then just a sticky label you stick in an laser printer (im not saying thats out of the question as i think any label would be picked off eventually). I was wondering whether there was something out there that printed something that would last a little longer, something more plasticy?! I dunno, just guessing here.

Oaktech Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 whatever you do, don't buy anything from wasp, they will charge you a fortune and just not be very good, they have no uk based support, so you have to wait for the US to come online at like 3 in the afternoon. A better bet when you have some budget is Real Asset Management. It is expensive (~£5000 including a hand scanner, labels, 12 months support and licence) but this will get you software so in depth it will tell you when the minibus is due for a service and which room you put the nice wheelie chair in...

Having bought Wasp stuff before, I have to agree. It isn't anything you couldn't rustle up with Access yourself.

Then I'm getting some of these: Avery triple bond labels (Thanks Plexer). Next year: barcode reader I'll even stick the labels somewhere I don't have to crawl behind cupboards or climb ladders to access......

I don't particularly have much i can say about it in a positive manner.

It's a moderately leathal mace? It looks ok? They can be combined into nunchucks? It's a good doorstop? I don't even have them and can think of a few.

It's cheaper than WASP, they provide pre-printed labels, UV markers & Lights, it deploys to iOS and Android devices as well as a hosted web management system. It's pretty good, as with WASP there are bits of it you won't use but the reports are pretty good and they are always adding features and stuff, worth a look!
