robert.mabbutt Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 We had Ofsted here Wednesday/Thursday. We just passed and for all our hard effort we had Pizza and drinks (Well i had orange and lemonade! I had to drive home!) in the staff room on Friday! The funniest part was the build up when the head annouced the school will be staying open till 8pm for teachers to prepare. I had a phone call around 6ish just when the power goes off to all the PC's! lol asking me how could teachers get back on! As I'm at the bottom of the pile in terms of personel I get to hear everything last (Plus our department is the least liked!) my ideas always get passed over! Sorry about the ffs rant! Robert

Both me and NM are tempted to take time in lieu or carry out some major router work It is interesting to see the staff running round like headless chickens even though it has been on the cards for us for about 2 and a half years and now that it comes it is only a 1 day so there is no way they are going to swoop on the teachers! Ohh well, suppose I can have some BOFH stylee fun and set off some rumours.

starscream Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 We got the call last week. Inspected tomorrow and wed. Eek! I am getting used to OFSTEDs though now. Over my 4 years in ICT Support at Primary schools this is my 4th Ofsted. Fun and joy to be had by all!

limbo Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 The problem is that if a teacher has a bad lesson the blame could come your way, whether it was an IT problem or not. And if the IT fails in a lesson that Ofsed are observing then the blame will definately come your way.

sqdge Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 We had our OFSTED the other week. I found that I was left alone over the two days since the teachers didn't want anything to go wrong, so they avoided using IT - I'm still not sure whether to take that as an insult or not.

It would have been nice to shut down two ICT rooms, as that would have meant no ICT in the school.

I've just had 40 minutes with an inspector along with a couple of other people and one newer member of staff decided to had an indirect pop at me by saying he'd not received a username to get on the system. I know this to be false and can prove it but I couldn't argue with him in front of the inspector. It's funny but today were getting calls from all over the place about little things that we wouldn't normally be bothered about like plugging speakers into a PC for a member of staff. HBJB

Many calls of the kind "Can you fix the printer as it hasn't worked in weeks". Did anyone think to tell us this weeks ago? & what is it you are always telling the kids about printing important work the night before?

HBJB Then go see slt now seriously we will wait oh you want a reason well in two day style inspection that one comment could be made into that ict support is an issue. So what need to do is goto slt/head and tell them what was said that can prove that they were given it and then head can tell the inspection team. So we will wait for you..
witch Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I have been involved in three OFSTEDs and have never been spoken to by any member of the inspection teams - nor has my boss the ICT co-ordinator - well not about the actual IT kit anyway. Is this good?....or bad..!!!

Friez Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Well its not just that he had a pop at HBJB but infront of the inspectors they'll clearly see either ICT Services as a problem, or there is a huge communication breakdown in the school (which I believe is something that the school could work on!) or both, when really he just can't be bothered to read messages that have his name on it! We've seen this before from staff when we had a large network rollover. We left them three memos in their pigeon holes in total, had it announced in staff briefing, put on the Intranet and we even offered a TRAINING SESSION on HOW TO BACKUP THEIR FILES for this very purpose. Not one person turned up for that training session and only 40% of staff actually backed up their work correctly while the other 60% insist that they were never informed of the admin rollover. We're definitely not at fault communication wise, we tell the staff what they need to know... and then some. It is not our fault that they are blind, deaf and dumb. As for a 'shining' report from ofsted, if they think there is a communication gap then that report won't happen. I really don't see the point in pretending, be honest and act as you would any other time, that's the way. Tell that to all the teachers who are normally utter bastards who are treating us with utmost respect today. Good reports + Acting normal = haha! In short if theres a school out there that is perfect and does everything to the book and theres absolutely no problems whatsoever and gets a PERFECT report without changing ANYTHING just for the inspectors, I want to know what school!
