Hi Guy's... we're hoping to rebuild one of our 32bit servers today with server 2003 64 bit edition.. Could anyone please take 5 mins out of their busy lives and save my life by sending me a link to an iso/img or if you live in the durham area I could borrow the disc... we only have the license code for the volume license edition so an OEM ISO wouldnt work (I dont think) We're hoping to rebuild this server today, would not ask if I was not desperate. Yeah, you need to add an A record for your server in your DNS Namespace.. If your using a microsoft DNS Server, open the dns management, click Forward lookup zones > open your site (school.local) right click and click New Host (A) Type in your hostname mtube then type in the ipaddress in the box 10.199.224.187 click okay now from any windows machine type http://mtube ... Depending on your DNS setup you may need the FQDN ( http://mtube.school.local )

Hi, We are looking as part of BSF for ways in which ICT can be used in the dance studio and for teaching and learning. So far we've covered, cameras to record/delayed playback linking to dartfish etc voice activated music + video librarys Tablet PC wirelessly linked to projector to be used around the room. As a school we are looking at our options for a VLE. Does anyone have a guest or student login for moodle or durham learning gateway which I could have, either from a PM or e-mail, just to see how schools are using the VLE's with their students. Thanks -Tony [email protected]

Hmm we use them to connect up our old gym to the network.. we use a Point to Point Wireless Bridge between the buildings, (the gym part is where the point is, and we needed access in the changing rooms / offices) so we then ran the AP to an Ethernet over power device and we have an ethernet over power plugged into the male staff office, this then goes into a switch and then into wireless points lol. Id say our setup is alot more scary than what youve got planned so it should work fine .

Hells no... Thats like a whole 7% of my years budget why not host it at a school, im sure a few would be happy to let you out a room, and it would cost nothing... Tbf I don't even goto free conferences if I dont have the time / think its useless.......

Thanks Already tried serial terminal-ing it... It failed badly... But it was fun getting out the good old RS-232 cable.... I loved that thing, used to use it to play red alert mutli player with my friend.. and then total annihilation when it came out carnt beat abit of 57,600 rate

Or if your happy with samba servers and not bothering with windows... get 5 x what we got one for each year group, Im sure that'll solve your bottleneck of a problem, also you wouldnt go wrong with 7.5TB of storage

Geoff, our latest server we built cost ~£800 (without software) It includes a £300 fully hardware HP broadcom network card, a hardware RAID5 card (without battery) 4 x 500GB SATA 300 7200 drives. 1.5TB storage, with I/O close to that of our dell poweredge with its 4 x 146gb scsi drives... The dell cost £4500, about 3 years ago. Im not suggesting you go for this, as this is our "option" on the budget we have, but im pointing out that we went for a specialized machine, which we built ourselves. with a budget of even just 3 x this, you could go for a 2u / 4u multi processor machine (instead of multi core) with redundant PSU's, more RAM (ours has only 2gb, as its only a fileserver), 15k drives etc etc.. I would recommend you get just one machine at around £3k, that way you should have a spare W2k3 license + CAL'S, maybe to use as a virtual machine somewhere? and £2k in the bank

Thanks for your reply's and ordering a server i could not configure? I didnt, The c2t cable has been ordered, payment was by cheque, which would have been fine but the eeejits at their end didnt put it in the bank when they recieved it, for a few days, then they refuesed to send the cable without payment clearing. Thanks for your solutions but problems exsist. Firstly i carnt configure the RAID controller to tell it which drive to boot from, assuming that the server is actually set to boot via scsi controller. I dont have another scsi320 controller of which i can use to configure the drive to boot at start. I need to configure the server with RAID0, which i wont be able to do without booting into the RAID controller's bios. The RAID controller is hardwired into the motherboard, its not just a card so i canrt just take the whole controller out :'( /cry The usb/ps2 thing wont work because its still essentially a USB keyboard, and USB support is disabled in the BIOS. Also I carnt try the serial option as i would have to order another cable, (while im still waiting for the original one :\) ive been told to expect the cable on monday ( a bank holiday, great) im expecting to come on wednesday, Not much more i can do. Ive canceled my time off work, and dropped the install window with the co-location, Re arranging for next week ;\ which causes problems with my subscribed webservers. Will have to run with 4-5 days of downtime

Use GET DATA BACK for FAT its quite cheap and you can try it before you purchase it. its fantastic, and can normally extract your data. I wouldnt of formatted it though, Would be better to try recorvery before formatting it, and then if that fails, then after its been formatted. Good luck!!

Hi All I need to borrow a c2t KVM cable for 1 day! I have a server going into co-location in maidenhead on friday, and i need to set it up to do some web hosting / game server hosting / some light VoIP. But, Its a 1u IBM X335, they dont have keyboard video or mouse ports on the back, just a breakout port. so im desperate to borrow a cable, can anyone help!? Tried solutions: Configure though serial port: Didnt work, the option is turned off in the bios :| Fit VGA card + use USB keyboard: Would work beautifully, if some pie hadnt turned off legecy usb keyboard emulation in the bios. :\ Am very willing to pick up. I second views of people who have already posted. The game is of your least priority. Archive any logs you may have, as well as his ip's and a backup of your forum / game. Take the machine down. Remove it from the internet and restore it from a backup. I imagine your problem may have been that you use the machine that all of this is hosted from ( as a user ) Ideally you should use a separate machine, or at least a user with rubbish privileges. Your machine SHOULD NOT be in a DMZ. your NAT firewall will offer you some protection but you should only forward ports necessary for the services you require. You do have an obligation to your users to explain that your website / server has been compromised. you will have to reset their passwords and give them the new ones, and you will have to warn them they should really cycle all the passwords they have associated. Mr script kiddy just needs to try stuffing some of the e-mail addys / password details into paypal, and then bad things could happen. What game is it that you host? I may be able to give you some pointers... but back to the basics. Contact your isp / the authoritys Inform your users of the problems, Take the machine down, Restore from a known good backup, Cycle all important passwords (anything without pleb access) Implement a hardware firewall or even a software based one if you have to but ensure your machine is not in a demiliterized zone. Change ports of services you dont need the public to access. even just adding numbers to the front so FTP : 21 > 57021 SMTP : 25 > 57025 POP3 : 110 > 57110 Hope this helps abit...
