For visual or interactively?

What about interactively???

I read smart will be bringing out an app at some point, but is there anything that can be used instead till they do????

I think the only way you will do that is having to do the stuff on the Ipad screen itself.

Paypal are no help!

The item is a digital download and not covered under their buyer protection scheme! They bury that in section 13.3 of the T&C's!!

For anyone following -

I got a reply from the creator after emailing the account used for their Paypal.

They have released a new PC version 1.0 to thier website AirServer - PC Download

They have added a website URL and response code for those of us behind proxy servers. This seems to be a little slow but does work successfully!

Im still sceptical over their support but will press for a more definite answer!

^ is it possible for the URL that you talk of. Have used this at home and is pretty good, would like to try it at work but as you say because we are behind a proxy I am having no luck :(

When you install the latest version and have purchased a licence when you input it into the program and attempt to activate from behind a proxy it will detect and swap to the alternate, web based authentication.

The link is unique to the install and generated in the program itself.

Ahh I see ... I was trying the free version .... when it activates with the email address it does that absolutely fine but the iPad cannot see it. I even turned the firewall off on my PC etc.

Make sure you have Bonjour print services installed, that's the bit that makes AirServer discoverable by your iPad. I seem to remember Bonjour comes packaged in with the iTunes installer, but if you unpackage iTune you can install Bonjour just by itself.

The AirServer installer prompts you if you dont have DirectX or Bonjour and takes you to the relevant download pages.

We had no problem installing Ver 1.01 and it worked first time ... We work behind the SWGFL proxy. The install prompted for Bonjour but gave an error message .. something about direct x so we went to the MS site and installed the latest version ... The prog works well now but with scratchy sound on certain PC's ... others work fine ... (All W7)

i am also giving airserver a trail run now and we are behind proxy etc, seems fine with mirroring on etc, only problem ive come accross so far is when i play a video that one of the kids has recorded, it crashes....:(

may have to give reflection a try tomorrow......

ipad 2 & iphone 4s, top spec laptop (i will also try it on my home pc)

funny thing is i can record a video whilst mirrored and its fine, also facetime etc no probs with getting mirrored image, not jerky or anything, just when i try to play a video thats in my camera roll/pictures folder....

im at home now and just tried it, although it doesnt crash, it just freezes and hard drive goes mental??

i just tried to play a music video on my iphone and ipad via youtube whilst mirrored and again it mirrors it perfectly....weird...

iPad 2 does not have the CPU power, iPhone 4s is borderline. You may be lucky! Also remember that with a laptop your going wireless to wireless (I assume) try laptop hardwired.

You have to remember the sizes of the files, they can be high size MP4 files that its trying to render on screen and stream.

Thanks for that Chris, i installed it onto my desktop last night at home and i was able to play a video clip from my iphone to desktop flawlessly on Airserver

i tried the same on my laptop at home and it wont play (just freezes)

At school today ive installed Reflection and i can play video clips from ipad and iphone to my laptop....allthough they are stuttery both wirelessly and hardwired, they do play and the app refuses to crash! ;)

shame really cos i prefer the Airserver over the Reflection, just seems better?

more testing for me ;)

The Airserver guy(s) - after a minor hiccup - are great and always release new and beta versions and are always tweaking.

At the end of the day, you could always buy an Apple TV for every class ;)

For your reflection issues, have a look at the CPU usage. We have been trialling Reflection but have found it is killing the CPUs in some of our computers. I'm talking about ultra small form factor Acer Veritons, they have E8400 in.

Basically the CPU can't handle the video decoding, and becomes jerky as hell, however sound is perfect. On my desktop (Quad Core 2 Duo with a GPU) the problem doesn't exist.

we have got this working flawless on our network with ipad 2`s and 5 year old desktops connected to smartboards, i have just purchased 20 licences with probably another 20 in the pipeline once they all want an ipad. Much Much better than Apple TV, and a far cheaper solution too. You do need the bonjour print server and active x on though. They did cause a few issues but they are sorted now.

Bringing this thread back to life. We have some Apple TVs but our iPads are currently not getting to talk to them because they can't get through the SWGfL filter. What is it we need to ask SWGfL to release?

OK - so we now have three Apple TVs all set up on the Network. Today I connected an iPad with Airplay to two of them but found the connection is not reliably consistent enough. Trying to connect with the Teacher's iPad failed. Most odd and totally frustrating. Anyone using these things to regularly connect to SmartBoards - if so do you also suffer this intermittent connection problem - the Apple Helpdesk at one stage had me restart both the Apple TV and iPad and then the display worked!

Hi sorry this is off topic, Apple TV's, we had real trouble connecting to our proxy with them, did you also have issues?

There is another option now in the shape of Reflection.app - AirPlay mirroring to your Mac or PC, wirelessly. Seems to work much better than AirServer and includes audio aswell.

Just installed Reflector (not called Reflections from this link) on a Win 7 64 bit PC. Had to open iTunes and set Airplay to the laptop name (rather than My Computer) and then it all ran as per the instructions on the Reflector Getting Started webpage. Only stutters at the start and then very good (wireless). Audio is quiet but that may be the laptop speakers, and I assume it would be louder through the IWB speakers. For the setup time it took me, I'm very impressed. Now need to look at the cost to purchase....

I guess the general issue means that we would be better off buying something like CleverTouch screens in the future, rather than SMARTboards, as I think these can take iPads as well as PC/laptops and presumably you get the full touch capability too.

Nay - I don't see that as off topic at all @SovietRussia as I believe this is exactly what is causing the problem we are experiencing. Apple have sent me the following which may well help

Apple TV: How to configure a proxy using profile

I'm also going to give Air Server a trial run.

The Apple TV sounds a great idea but in my experience it's a total PITA. I hope to be proved wrong!
