t_guest Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 hi all as many of you know i have been asking for apprenticeship's now for 3 months for an ict technician job and on Friday i was accepted at Moorside High School.i am set to start work there in September and also start college. studying I.C.T
petectid Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Well done Callum, make sure that you are given chance to attend relevant training courses. This will enable you to further your chances for posts when you finish at Moorside, remember experience and qualifications will set you up for the future. Good luck
Midget Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Are you SURE that's good news? Run. Get out before you start.
localzuk Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Just take the advice from Fry: "you cant give up hope just cus its hopeless, you gotta hope even more, and cover your ears and go BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH..."
john Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I would not go into Edu-Geeking now i'm here, I wouldn't recomend it to anyone, I would rather be an undertaker than an edu-geek at times. I would miss this forum like mad, but its not a good thing to go into at present/
Gatt Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Erm.. Congrats callum... though nice of the staff to ask my opinion on this :?
ctbjs Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 ah...the true cloak and dagger environment that is working in education. Good luck Callum and Gatt - hope the mushroom effect doesn't last too long!!
john Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Erm.. Congrats callum... though nice of the staff to ask my opinion on this :?By your comments I assume the Manglement have done there usual and forgot to mention that to you and now your getting a trainee techy for a year that you were not expecting
Midget Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 i hope you are expecting the increase in pay for looking after ol' callum.
Gatt Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Im gonna be expecting a LOT when i get back - starting with an explanation from Manglement as to why i was kept in the dark!!
MkII Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Truly disgusting Gatt (congrats Callum BTW ) Oh wait - the exact same thing happenned to me.. only I was off on sick leave... and my new trainee is on a level pegging to me - even tho' i've had a year so far of showing him the ropes... ho-hum.
john Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I think thats a Manglement thing, they save these things till people are ill, away etc etc it happened to my dad, he took a week off to find that during that week the company merged and his job was "adjusted" without him being there and to have any say and he was a Branch Manager and all the others had been invited to attend the company meeting at HQ they forgot him as he was on "holiday" despite them knowing he was just off work at home spending time with the family rather than miles away sunning himself. Thank goodnes for friends at the other local branch phoned him and kept him informed.
Gatt Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 does make him a geuine PFY though!! Though gonna knock lumps out of SLT for appointing someone without my input.
ThatBoringBloke Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 i think that i is probably more to do with the fact that he wasn't consulted about having another bod in his team, than a case of not wanting you.
bossman Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Callum: welcome to the insane world of educational IT. If you wanna succeed like nothing else then get yourself a parrot hehe! P.S good luck for the future
Espada Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Gatt > Your first task must be to get this guy off PC World. Get him making network cables until he repents.
_Bat_ Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 gatt i thought you knew about this ? gatt if you don't want me there just say As has been said, it won't be because he doesn't want you there. It's more because he wasn't asked. After all, surely the whole point of us being in the schools is to further students/pupils education in respect to ICT (in the long run)? What better way of doing that for you then this?
acrobson Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 It would be interesting to see them do that at my place, we have a cypher card system which requires people to swipe in and out, given that no one can get access to anywhere without us activating it, including the server room, so they would kinda have to keep us in the loop if they wanted to get in! All the best... I would love to be a fly on the wall when Gatt gets into that management office! It could have been as worse as they could have hired someone who wasn't known to the campus which could have had great security risks to the infrastructure, if they had decided to give them full reign with no supervision etc, such as when the NM was off.
