Hi,

There is a server that gets stuck on "Please Wait For The User Profile Service" when i try and login as myself. If i login as the network admin account its fine.

Does anyone have any thoughts please?

Thanks

Do you use roaming profiles? Does the working account?

I have seen this happen when a profile's file was locked (the users ntuser.dat in that case due to me editing via regedit)

The account has no profile etc. I think there is more to it. When i logon locally the network icon in the bottom left has a cross and i cant get into network and sharing center. But i can ping to and from the server.

Thanks

I have been having this issue as well but not only on both physical and virtual servers but on our desktops as well. Even a freshly created user who has no GPOs applied to them seems to have this issue although in all cases it is intermittent.

Interesting, I have been having the same issue the past couple of days on one of our servers.

For us it only happens after a reboot, if you leave it for a long time it eventually logs in and the issue disappears, reboot and the same happens.

Wonder if an update caused this?

Just gone back to mine and it works fine after just as you said. The server in question is Exchange and has just been commissioned this week.

I've seen this on one of our Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers - sometimes can wait upto 15 mins before it eventually logs in - as mentioned above it generally does this after a restart, nothing exciting is mentioned in the event viewer etc.

Ah i had it on our 2008 R2 RDS servers last year. I disabled a service linked with office 2010 and it resolved it. :)

All of the above would point most likely to DNS related inconsistencies.

Policies and Profiles requiring object name resolution which is not being answered in a timely fashion.

Anything from a bad software installation call in a policy or a script referencing a unc path that cannot be resolved can't add minutes (even hours) to a login.

Quickest and easiest way to diagnose such issues is an inline tap and packet capture, but also use the GPO tools to check the policy logs for things like failed application deployments.

We had a similar issue across the whole site. It turned out to be something to do with the WMI and NLA service. There is a folder in C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository. If this gets above 180mb, it slows down your PC. On startup/login the PC/server has to verify the contents in this folder.

We did think it was either our build on the PC's or our group polices causing the problem.

I do have links, but I am unable to post them as I have not posted enough yet!
