...And it was my best one yet

It was for a primary school, and they asked lots of questions stressing how I would need to liase with their current contract, RM etc

Then they asked the killer question : What would you do if a backup failed

And I injected some humour by saying one word : Panic! (Of course I did give a full answer after they had finished laughing!!!)

We'll find out by the end of today anyway, 1 in 3 chance 8)

It's good to hear you had a little humour mate, employers love that as they can see the human side to you as oppsed to the robot side that all us edugeeks are.

All the best mate, hope you get it.

Thanks

I forgot to mention the bus getting there! It was a new posh one with a information screen...

...Trouble was it was linked to a computer running Windows XP and it kept BSODing and rebooting!!!

Just had an interview myself for a local middle school.

They asked me how to deal with a stroppy teacher!

My answer: "try to explain without making them feel stupid - never never lose your temper etc etc"

In real life - nah!

I got asked similar questions. I said I'm NOT a yes man, I will stick with my priorities and if I feel the teachers task is less important than my current one it will have to wait, and I would explain this to the teacher calmly.

Grr!

"We'll make a decision today..."

Now 5:15pm and the clock is ticking

I hope they ring today because I won't sleep tonight if they don't :(

I was once asked in an interview - ' why are some man hole covers round ? '

This really threw me but I replied - ' so they don't fall down the holes ? '

Weird interview that was....

Weird interview that was....

Why are they generally round?

The question of why manhole covers are typically round, at least in the U.S., was made notorious by Microsoft, and Tony Martinez when they began asking it as a job-interview question.

Originally meant as a psychological assessment of how one approaches a question with more than one "right" answer, the problem exerts a strange fascination on people, who seek to find alternate explanations, from the pragmatic and satirical to the philosophical. One practical answer being, "Manhole covers are round because manholes are round."

Reasons for the shape include:

A round manhole cover cannot fall through its circular opening, whereas a square manhole cover may fall in if it were inserted diagonally in the aperture (A Reuleaux triangle or other curve of constant width would also serve this purpose, but round covers are much easier to manufacture.)

Round tubes are the strongest and most material-efficient shape against the compression of the earth around them, and so it is natural that the cover of a round tube assume a circular shape.

The bearing surfaces of manhole frames and covers are machined to assure flatness and prevent them from becoming dislodged by traffic.

Round castings are much easier to machine using horizontal boring mills.

Circular covers do not need to be rotated to align them when covering a circular manhole.

Human beings have a roughly circular cross-section.

A round manhole cover can be more easily moved by being rolled.

If an automobile rolls over a dislodged manhole of another shape, the sharp corners could puncture the automobile's tire, whereas a circle doesn't have corners.

I also had an interview today but this would have left doing pure teaching and the kids were all so well behaved. I hated it.

Argh I'm getting stressed now

No phone call and it ain't gonna happen now. Do you think it will be a 'Sorry' letter in the post tomorrow or could they still ring tomorrow even though they have apparently decided today?

(Could they be doing a CRB check etc before offering me the post?)

The CRB check needs you to fill in the forms and it takes a couple of months to go through so it is unlikely.

They didn't call you at work and leave you a VM by mistake did they? That happened to me on my last interview, every time the phone rang at home i was like OMG it could be the answer and it was junk or marketing etc, got to work,I had a VM left by them, despite them asking and checking which number to call.

I suppose it depends how long the interviews went on for. They may ring you first thing tomorrow if you have got it, as ringing a person in the evening can be considered impolite.

However, I'll be honest and admit it doesn't look good. Don't worry though... everyone goes through this. The more interviews you have, the better you'll get. I know they can't exactly be called a nice experience, but there are advantages to it all even if you don't get the job.

I still think you should do voluntary IT support somewhere (bear in mind that there are a lot of places that can't afford IT support and are practically crying out for it)... it'd give you experience and something else to do while you are job hunting. It could also be mentioned in any future interviews. IT Support can be extremely satisfying as you probably already know :D.

I got offered the job same day couple of hours later, then when i signed the contract they gave me a crb form to fill... 1 month later working in a shool and crb cam through.

Same here. My first interview, I was offered the job and started a couple of months later, and then the CRB came through 4 months after that. (I think I was lucky though, as getting a job on your first interview is a bit rare).

I got offered the first job i applyed for but then i have a good interview technique so i have been told but then i have to pratice more than most being dyslexic. Was told after the interview how i did it i told them Lots of pratice and go in thinking that it was just another pratice then i relax more and dont worry sweat or panic and tend to get thing right if i panic I rush and get things wrong badly lol. Good luck you will probly find they will ring you on monday. My letter arived before the phone call. Had all this paperwork to fill in when i phoned up and asked what it was they said sorry but they thought someone else was going to ring me and noone did lol. Fingers crossed for you.

Hello, please stop trying to stress, humour is definetly good. I have worked in Human Resources for 15 years and conducted hundreds of inteviews, whether you get the job or not you did the right thing. They will probably call you tomorrow. If not, they are not right for you.
