I NEVER see Windows 7 on any corp networks on the TV!!!!

Everytime i see a computer monitor on the TV in the background, I always have a little glance at what OS they are running.

They all seem to have windows XP (and 99% have same dell cut out keyboards)...

 

NHS - every hosptial ive seen

The Police

British Gas

the TA Army

the BBC (news)

Fire Service - even in there new build super station

Watchdog

Mythbusters

All banks ive seen.

a nuclear power station on the news

........

the list goes on... I never see a windows 7 login screen.

Makes me feel a little better about the fact that we are still predominately windows xp!!

 

Does anyone see windows 7???

a lot of tv dramas these days tend to have a linux derivative - I know Spooks did until the last series (or last 2) when they moved to the amazingly secure Macs

super archaic or just have a system that works with their applications. Most industries don't need to deal with a fraction of the number of apps that get thrown into schools. If their internal security is good enough and their apps are web/java/nix based (or anything not .net) then windows 7 doesn't need to be high on the list of priorities.

With the big organisations it's definitely a software support issue. I remember reading not that long ago about companies still running IE6 because some web based software they run was written to its broken HTML spec and they can't use it in anything else.

BT have it across the corporate network, well its available some people are still on XP but most are on 7. there are quite a few jobs out there for deployment and SCCM engineers as the large companies go to Win7.

Apparently, Dynamic and rapidly growing companies with very productive employees choose propriety and the bid monolithic companies tend towards OSS, so the less the productivity of their employees the more chance they would be using OSS.

Thats what you would expect; but it turns out these really large corps (who have the tech ability) would tend towards OSS due to lower cost and higher operating efficiency.

Even our banks have made it to Windows 7, its only the real hold outs and back water excrement houses like Vodafone that are useing XP now. We are also mostly hp or apple on TV mainly as they are the only ones that bother shipping anything remotely current down here. Edited March 23, 2012 by SYNACK

IIRC Lloyds TSB only moved to Windows XP a few years ago, from Windows 2000. So, this isn't exactly surprising really.

 

My colleague here used to do roaming support in a previous job and he saw Windows 3.1 machines still in use only half a dozen years ago...

The bank I was working at recently are in the midst of a full scale roll-out of Windows 7 at the moment, averaging approx 5k deployments a week
