marsdenprimary Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hello. Weird issue... A PC in our school (XP) keeps making the 'mouse click' sound that happens when you open a folder or click a link on the internet. Thing is- it does it when nothing is open and there is no user activity...! Really weird. Never encountered this issue before- anyone else? It's almost like there's a ghost opening folders and clicking links in the background! Checked the task manager and can't see anything suspicious. Virus software up-to-date. Hope you can help! J x
jamesbrown Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I had this problem on my computer, did a virus scan and found nothing... It seems to have stopped now but i never found out what was causing it.

marsdenprimary Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 check the sound scheme maybe some one has linked the sound to something automatic? Hey that's a good idea- i'll check that out.
Alpha2x Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Not a website with a auto refresh meta tag refreshing in a switched session or something? Have you tried restarting the machine and seeing if it goes away?
Michael Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I've seen the same problems with Smartboards. You hear the sound of a USB device being disconnected then re-connected. I put it down to a wiring problem and without re-wiring, there isn't much more I could do!
elsiegee40 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Have you tried switching the mouse? I agree. Weird results like this often come when the mouse is starting to pack up.
marsdenprimary Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Not a website with a auto refresh meta tag refreshing in a switched session or something? Have you tried restarting the machine and seeing if it goes away? A restart doesn't seem to make any difference...it's very odd. I'm going to check the sound scheme now to see if that may be the problem.
marsdenprimary Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I agree. Weird results like this often come when the mouse is starting to pack up. I'll give that a try as well but i don't see how that can make the sound as the mouse isn't clicking anything...i'll try it though.
marsdenprimary Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Still haven't had a look at the sound settings yet!! It's MEGA busy here but i'll get on it soon and post back.
marsdenprimary Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 Hey guys sorry for not getting back in touch it's been crazy here- didn't manage to fix the problem as it disappeared next time i went to check it...VERY bizarre... still in the dark about what it was and why it happened!
