Can anyone recommend some network auditing software that will allow me to run it over the network to get the spec of the PC's running on my network. I have to get this done and I don't fancy walking round to every computer and going through device manager and taking it apart to double check the spec.

Have used four in the past / present ..

Visual Audit X3 - Visionsoft (think everybody has probably received a flyer at some point!!) - good although a bit hard to get your head around reports

Systemhound - i like this. New version due soon

Spiceworks - seems good and is free which is a bonus!

Everest - used to be known as Aida32 which is still available from MajorGeeks and i think is free

I'll second the recommendation for Visual Audit. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it IMHO.

It audits automatically and silently (well, you can see it running but can't interact with it) and it then builds a database of hardware and software. If you want, you can then specify how many licences you have for various bits of software and then run reports to identify instances where you are under-licensed.

i've just installed spice works, and find it extremely good V. impressed.

easy to install, takes a while to do the full audit but it works wonders!

i would definately reccomend it and plus its free!

I like the look of SpiceWorks, but I have found that I can not get it to find all the computers on my system, and it has a habit of classifying things as being "unknown"...but other than that it's a clever piece of software.

We're going to use

or something.. I've been putting off running it. The thought amount of software I'll have to uninstall scares me, I'll do it over the summer holidays! :)

decided to give spiceworks a try, very easy to install and easy to use.

Managed to get all computers that were switched on.

NetSupport DNA (if your pockets are deep enough). It will dig and delve and log and report EVERYTHING. From hardware, software, internet usage (it will even block sites!) and software deployment this baby does it all. Even if the clients are not connected to the LAN it will still log all activity until such time it reconnects then upload all of the information stored. Give it a free try:
