zag Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Wow been using it for 10mins and absolutley hate it already. Using desktop apps is a complete pain, feels far worse than windows 7. Just switching apps seems like a massive process. Basically its a tablet OS that looks about 60% finished and they seem to have totally ignored the desktop corporate/education user. One of the many reasons I despise Firefox's faster release schedule is that I've seen a LOT more crashes, starting with version 5. I'd dump Firefox tomorrow if IE or Chrome had sidebars.

jamesfed Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I can see what others saying about it being a terriable desktop OS and I agree - but on a tablet I think this is going to tick all the boxes If its possible to turn off Metro (as it was in the dev preview) then I will be happy though!

AngryTechnician Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Seems like my earlier disconnect was a blessing in disguise, restarted the download with IE9 and was coming down at 1.5Mbps, now done on both x86 and x64. My guess is that some of the load balancers they've brought up since aren't as rammed.

Norphy Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I really hate to judge it after only a few minutes of using it but I can't help but feel that they've really dropped the ball on this one. Everything seems a lot more awkward to get at for desktop users and I'm really not convinced about the wisdom of getting rid of the start button. I wonder if this is going to turn out to be another vista and W9 will end up being to W8 what W7 was to Vista.

Trapper Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I think they've screwed the pooch. No enterprise is going to want this. No Start Menu, a fiddly tablet menu system to launch an app - which takes you OUT of the desktop to do so. Either they are being very, very clever and assuming most enterprises will either stick with 7 after an arduous XP migration, or be on XP and be in the process of migration to 7. This really feels like a home only system.

There are some nice changes here and there but it is completely overshadowed by the poor decision to remove the start menu button and add the frustrating 4 corner thing. I think i preferred the Developer preview! And who decided to put the shutdown option in the settings button??
