Gongalong Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Hi folks, We're looking to get a temperature sensor for our server room. This looks simple enough, although the ideal was something with support for a SIM and SMS as well: Xsensior Lite USB Temperature and Humidity Monitor | Openxtra Any recommendations other than the above, lessons learned etc.? TIA
localzuk Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I beta tested one of these for them. They're as simple as you can get for monitoring. Great for 'ad hoc' monitoring, but I personally wouldn't use it for monitoring a server room. I've not come across one with built in SMS though. We went with a Senturion device, combined with Intellipool and a USB Z-SMS modem for that capability at my last place, and it never really worked properly. I've found that having it email was just as reliable anyway, so long as your internet connection and monitor are on a UPS.
TechMonkey Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Check your own mobile provider. We found that O2 offered webmail that included setting up rules to text if an email matched the criteria. Free set-up and I think it is only 10p a text. Not sure if the others do the same but it maybe worth checking.
CyberNerd Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 APC UPS's (whichever our model is?) has an external temperature sensor configured to send email alarms.
Sylv3r Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 We use one of these with e-mailed alerts when it hits certain thresholds. The Climate 1
andyfield Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I got one of these from Enclosure, Environmental Monitoring & Accessories - Enclosures & Accessories HWG-STE Cost £147 which I thought was good...
MrBees889 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Check out Temperature@lert. They have a nifty USB sensor that is probably as simple as it gets. Works great for our server racks and was pretty easy to set up overall. Temperature@lert USB Standard Edition - Temperature Sensor USB <- Link to USB Was $129 when we bought it (not including a monitoring plan), price may have changed.
RTFM Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 APC UPS's (whichever our model is?) has an external temperature sensor configured to send email alarms. That's what we use
prandelicious Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 We've had had good experience with AKCP products. We use it to monitor temperature, humidity, and presence of water. Oh, and they're cheap!
bshingler Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 have a look at RoomAlert - have used these in a couple of server rooms - does what the name says.
