You may want to order an 8gb in case the 16gb doesn't work. Quote from the guy who made the Raspberry Pi;

We don’t currently work with some high-capacity class 10 SD cards. There are plenty of 8GB cards that work well, but I’ve not seen many 16GB cards that do. We’re working to develop a fix for this.

Partition it into two 8gb partitions ?

I've been working with Liam on the Fedora and Arch download servers.

Both images *should* fit on a 2GB card once uncompressed, but a 4GB is recommended by most people we've spoken to as not all 2GB cards seem to be able to take 2GB of data without overlaping or running out of space on partitions. For what its worth I'm buying 4GB cards.

Dos_box and ZeroHour will be posting some of our guides and datasheets here over the next few days, two of which cover downloading images and extracting to SD cards.

If they are designed to meet the relevant SD card spec, surely the cards would be classed as faulty if they do not work? :confused:

Or is it because there are lots of fake cards on the market?

Im still cautiously optimistic I may have one of the first batch from RS, I did register my interest at 6.01 - while most people were tweeting "where is the RS order page?"

Still wondering if I should put another order in with Farnell, just to be sure of getting one.

Same sort of ordering time as you JJonas. We should find out from RS by the end of this week. However when I read of upwards of 500 orders a second going through it's going to be borderline at the very very best I fear....

I am feeling quite pessimistic about it all. I too sat hitting refresh on both Farnell and RS's sites from the moment the announcement was made, registered my interest with RS as soon as the page came up, only to hear tweeted later by R-Pi "if you're getting the register your interest page, you're looking in the wrong place". I couldn't find any other mention of R-Pi on their site, and people tweeting to ask for the link were denied it.

The whole launch has been a bit of a shambles... what happened to them being available from the R-Pi store and no pre-orders? We're now all pre-ordering (effectively, as when they "launched" the suppliers didn't actually possess them) from third parties...

So if they had stuck with the original plan of distributing themselves without letting farnell and RS stick their oars in we'd have pi by now.

Also, they received the first 2,000 from China on Monday? What was the whopping big lie about the distributors having 10,00 last month about then?

My prediction - RasPi will crash and burn before the year is out.
