I am thinking about moving over to a Red Hat based OS. I can't decide between Fedora and CentOS. Can someone please point out the differences to me and what each one is better for. Which one do you recommend?

after the release of fedora 11 on tuesday ive been thinking how to update my servers that run fedora and my netbook. After a little research i discovered a utility in fedora that basically swaps the f10 repos for the f11 repos and runs an update. This seemed perfect, the servers would be able to update and the only down time would be the reboot at the end. To test it i turned on my netbook made sure there was no important documents that needed backing up and then launched the utility. The problem appears to be that it wont work behind the proxy, yum has its moments trying to find mirrors not filtered by the smart filter, but it normally comes across an accessbile mirror after no more than 3 attempts. This utility seems unable to function behind the proxy, i will try the netbook again when i get home and have un filtered internet, but obviously thats no help to my servers. Has anyone used this utility possibly to go 9 -> 10 behind the LancsNGFL proxy?

Can someone please clarify to me what the different Fedora desktops are used for and/or why they are good. Thanks EDIT: title should be Fedora 20, different desktops.

I've created a Fedora based Virtualbox VM for developing software the the Raspberry Pi using Scratchbox2 (I have a Ubuntu based one that works as I want -- New Raspberry Pi development vm version 0.2 « Executing Gummiworms ) but i've hit a slight problem when trying to idiot proof the Fedora based one as I haven't used Fedora before and the last RH based distro I used was RH about 10 years so i'm kind of rusty when it comes to the RH/Fedora was of doing things so i'm not sure how to create a shortcut to a directory on the desktop that opens in LXTerminal. All my attempts so far haven't worked as expected so could someone put a poor lost soul out of their misery and tell me how to do it please? thanks ukscone

Is anyone else here planning on buying a Raspberry Pi and putting Fedora on it?

ARM chips are the most widely-produced processor family in the world; they have historically been used in cell phones and embedded applications, and are increasingly used in tablet devices and low-power-consumption servers. The Fedora-ARM project is an initiative to bring Fedora to this processor family. More Info about ther ARM builds for the Raspberry Pi can be found here: Architectures/ARM - FedoraProject

ive got a fresh install of fedora 11 and ive installed the virtual management stuff in F11, i then installed XEN and went to set it as the default boot entry in grub, but it hasnt created any grub entries. Can anyone paste the grub entries from a machine running Xen on Fedora?

At one of my primary schools i have 2 servers, a Windows Server 2k3 server that is the main (and only) DC on the network, it is also the DHCP and DNS Server. The Second Server runs Fedora and is a FOG Machine. I want to setup the Fedora machine to be the backup DC. Just so that there is some kind of backup in place. Ive found a couple of guide telling me how to join it to the domain, which i suppose is the first step, but not quite what i want it to do.
