hi guys, I need to run a program at startup on a fedora system, its embeded really so there is no keyboard and mouse and it doesn't really need any security as there is no keyboard / mouse or even network, it basically services serial port requests only. so how would be the best bet for running my program at startup ? autologin and then run the program? how would i do that, or run it as a daemon , don't really like this obviously i would if it was a networked server but its not

Everthing has gone! No Partitions, nothing, completely blank HDD (/dev/sda) Grub errors galore - mainly error 22 Grabbed the Fedora 10 Rescue DVD and booted up, it couldn't find any linux installs! Ran gpart and parted and managed to recover my /boot Partition but nothing else (gpart not showing any sign of any partitions on the HDD Just glad it was my backup webserver though, so just lost all the backups... Does anyone know of any other ways to try and recover these partitions before I re-install Fedora 10 and rebuild the mirror website?

Evening All! Right ive been working at this on and off for 2 whole days now, and rite...im actually starting to get a huge headache cuz of it lol First of all...I installed Ubuntu and that just would not go on our network at all, it would not connect to the internet...NOTHING! 2nd, installed Fedora today and right, it can ping internally, and it can ping externally (google.com etc) now when i run wget from the cmd line, i get a 407 error: authentication required... now in an ideal world i would turn off authentication on the ISA server, BUT i dont really want to do that, Any way of authenticating myself to the ISA Server? Anybody helppppp!! *Goes and sits in the corner and crys* LOL

after the release of fedora 11 on tuesday ive been thinking how to update my servers that run fedora and my netbook. After a little research i discovered a utility in fedora that basically swaps the f10 repos for the f11 repos and runs an update. This seemed perfect, the servers would be able to update and the only down time would be the reboot at the end. To test it i turned on my netbook made sure there was no important documents that needed backing up and then launched the utility. The problem appears to be that it wont work behind the proxy, yum has its moments trying to find mirrors not filtered by the smart filter, but it normally comes across an accessbile mirror after no more than 3 attempts. This utility seems unable to function behind the proxy, i will try the netbook again when i get home and have un filtered internet, but obviously thats no help to my servers. Has anyone used this utility possibly to go 9 -> 10 behind the LancsNGFL proxy?

Very helpful error message when copying a file: You have an error, click more details = "Success"

Can someone please clarify to me what the different Fedora desktops are used for and/or why they are good. Thanks EDIT: title should be Fedora 20, different desktops.

Here is a funny one, have a Fedora server running Squid in transparent proxy mode. It uses 'chains'? to foward from port 80 internally to the proxy. The issue is that with certain sites it can only handle exactly x number of sessions then fails for the next client. Unfortunatly the site is used for class lots of testing and x < class size. I have looked through the squid.conf and there are no session limits set, it could be a bandwidth constraint but it seems odd that it would present at exactly x users each time. Addidionally ISA handles it fine as another site so I am guessing that it is a misconfiguration or limitation(unlikely) of Squid. I think that the site may use SSL for certain parts incase this could effect it. Any helpful hints?

ive got a fresh install of fedora 11 and ive installed the virtual management stuff in F11, i then installed XEN and went to set it as the default boot entry in grub, but it hasnt created any grub entries. Can anyone paste the grub entries from a machine running Xen on Fedora?

OK this has me stumped Recently updated my fedora 10 box with latest updates via Yum as well as installing a 1GB Switch it has 2 NICs - eth0 (Staff) and eth1 (Pupils) When it brings up eth0 I get the following message RTNETLINK answers: no such process eth0 appears to start with [OK] however, I cannot ping the server or ping out using eth0 - Destination Host unreachable I have checked the configs in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-staff_lan and it is identical to the config for the eth1 port (save for the IP addreses) Eth0 config: DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=none BROADCAST=10.4.25.255 HWADDR=00:18:71:78:68:B6 IPADDR=10.4.24.236 NETMASK=255.255.254.0 NETWORK=10.4.24.0 GATEWAY=10.4.24.255 ONBOOT=yes DNS1=10.4.24.200 SEARCH="staff.internal" NM_CONTROLLED=no TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no Eth1 Config: DEVICE=eth1 BOOTPROTO=none BROADCAST=192.168.255.255 HWADDR=00:18:71:78:68:B4 IPADDR=192.168.0.100 NETMASK=255.255.0.0 NETWORK=192.168.0.0 ONBOOT=yes DNS1=192.168.0.200 SEARCH="pupils.moorsdie.internal" NM_CONTROLLED=no TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no Dunno why Eth1 is working but eth0 is not

Morning all Having a serious headache with getting fog + ClamAv working, i assign a virus scan to a client and it pxe boots fine, loads up the scanning page, claims that it is updating clamav but then errors saying no database files were found. Im assuming its somethign to do with proxy authentication but cant seem to be able to get around it at all, any ideas?

I have inherited a rather strange setup which consists of a bunch of XP clients with local profiles and accounts pointing at a CentOS (edit, actually Fedora core 6) server running SAMBA for file and print. The plan is to migrate the existing users to a AD environment to get centralized authentication and logons. Does anyone know if there is a way to get SAMBA to at least cough up with at least a list of the current users if not the passwords as well. I know that Windows AD can be set to encrypt passwords in a reversable encryption so I am wondering if there is a simmilar setting that would allow me to recover the current user passwords, if not what is the easiest way to reset them? Thanks for any help in advance.

This appears to be a problem with fedora 11, yum just wont work inside the lancsngfl. The problem is that it cant download new package lists. when i copied in the package list from my netbook (which it dled the night before on an unfiltered internet connection) it worked no problems at all. The problem now is that when ever i want to update servers i have to copy in the package list, and if ever i want to install anything on my netbook, and it hasnt downloaded a package list recently yum hangs. I definatley have the proxy set, and a fedora 10 machine on the same connection using the same settings is able to install packages etc.. no problems

I'm wanting to install a copy of Fedora as a LAMP server. That bit is easy. I'm then wanting it to authenticate against W2K3 server user accounts, so it can create webspace and an ftp account for the user to upload to. Can anyone offer an idiots guide to getting this to work Cheers Iain

I have a Virtual FOG machine, instead of having a huge virtual hdd i decided to store the images on the host machine. I use Virtual Box and i shared a host folder through it. I mounted it to /images and it worked brilliantly i could create files etc... in the folder and they appeared on the host. I booted up a machine to upload to this new fog machine and it fails saying it cant mount the nfs share. i umounted the share and tried to mount the nfs share again, works fine so its not an authentication/service problem with nfs its a problem with nfs and the share. when i try mounting it from terminal i get: [root@fog mnt]# mount -t nfs FOG_IP:/images /mnt/nfs/ mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting FOG_IP:/images the directory permissions are the same and i cant see any problems with it. Anyone know how to get nfs to share a share?

At one of my primary schools i have 2 servers, a Windows Server 2k3 server that is the main (and only) DC on the network, it is also the DHCP and DNS Server. The Second Server runs Fedora and is a FOG Machine. I want to setup the Fedora machine to be the backup DC. Just so that there is some kind of backup in place. Ive found a couple of guide telling me how to join it to the domain, which i suppose is the first step, but not quite what i want it to do.
