The page has almost no formatting whatsoever without it. Interesting that 2097 has noted it happens with other proxies too; I had suspected it was a YouTube problem rather than a Smoothwall problem (unless the LEA is using Smoothwall too).

I don't see how it can be a Smoothwall problem given that you can load the CSS directly and it isn't blocked. My only suspicion is that the page is trying to apply some CSS via script, as I think I saw in the source, and that it's somehow fouling it up.

Has anyone tried out Iain's ISAPI filter for TMG? I haven't found much in my searching for ways to get this implemented on TMG, and unfortunately I can't use the toolkit from Redline since I'm running on 2008 R2.

I would have PM'd directly but you need two posts before that is allowed.

I've sent you a PM, I think you should be able to reply to it.

Thanks Iain,

I was not able to respond due to the post requirement, although since this counts as my 2nd it should be fine now :p

We can unlock videos by adding them to playlists within our Admin account, but the only way students can view those videos, as far as we can tell, is by a direct link to that exact video.

I'm struggling to get this far...

I've got the header working correctly through Smoothwall, with the new G3 update released to us (NYCC) yesterday. I then added two videos to a test playlist but students still see the 'this video is blocked, ask your admin to add it to a playlist' error even when directly linking to it.

Anyone else come across this?

You've definitely got the right hash value set?

For anyone using MS Forefront TMG (2010), I have written a ISAPI webfilter that will enable this feature. It also enforces Safety Mode, if required, for staff who have an authorised, unrestricted YouTube account.

Although I have written this for TMG, it should be easy enough to adapt to work on ISA 2004 / 6 (32 bit platforms).

If you would like a copy, send me a PM and I'll fire it off to you!

Iain.

- Thank you - will send PM

Our senior tech noticed this a few weeks ago, looks rather promising with the popularity of Youtube. The kids will be disappointed by the EDU only content, no music videos and stupid video clips floating around school :)

I wouldn't count on that, I need to do a bit more Classroom Monitoring but when I was in the other day I did spot some videos that were on the pre-approved Edu stuff that I certainly found annoying and time wasting and I suspect the teachers will say the same thing so its certainly not as white as I would like it to be :( But at last by having it its probably going to solve a lot more issues than it makes at present :)

There is a another program that is based on the Youtube EDU site, but it's locally hosted and you have full control of the content, comments etc, will find out what it is called tomorrow but it looked pretty good.

I think it is Linux based, so it might be tricky to setup for someone with no Linux knowledge.

Can any Bloxx users confirm/deny whether this works? I'm currently writing a proposal to replace our RM SmartCache with Bloxx, and this would be a huge +1 for it if it can do it...

Would be really interested to see what Bloxx say about this. It wouldn't seem to be in their interest to allow this as they have their own media filter solution.

Anyone have an answer from them yet?

Yes, I asked them about this, and they said that they can do it.

Did people sort out the invisible channels / playlists ?

I've joined up and created a channel and a playlist for the school, but can't seem to find them at all.

The rest of it is working, all nicely blocking away the annoying stuff, although staf fhave already asked why they can't get to the things they've put up themselves. Do they need to all create a YouTube account ?

It's all a bit hashed at the moment. We've found the only reliable way to use it, is to give the teachers the username/password of the school's admin account to add videos to playlists, then direct link to them through Moodle.

We've got a ticket open with Google, but they're not the quickest to respond to issues...

Still can't search/view playlists by searching.

Oooh, I've sorted this for our school.

It wasn't very obvious, but I was editting the pages to make it look pretty.

I created a user shared area so now we have http://www.youtube.com/user/schoolname, within this I created a playlist, which wasn't working.

But when I then changed the settings on the http://www.youtube.com/user/schoolname page so that the default was the 'videos' rather than the 'feeds', suddenly when I loaded up the http://www.youtube.com/user/schoolname it showed up, whereas when it was on 'feeds' I just got an error that stated I wasn't allowed to view the page because we'd signed up to the youtube for schools service.

Now I just have to create a polite email to the teachers telling them how it all works.

Although, the students have now been able to access youtube for about 6 hours, and they managed to find it very quickly. I've already had a teacher complining that youtube is now useless for them....
