would you get the latest generation or the same type you sent off?

I think it's pretty unlikely you'll get the same generation. TBH it doesn't matter.. I've lost nothing if they do a straight swap.

From reading the Apple Support Forums people who have been into stores to ask have been told it will be a like for like swap ... so you are probably going to end up getting a refurbished unit with a fresh battery.

One of mine only gets used in the car and the battery life is getting fairly chronic, so this is fine by me.

Recieved three packets today to post them off to Apple Care in Lutterworth!

There is speak about getting refurbs as replacements but I have spoke to apple care and they say that they will be brand new ipods and could be more up to date ones depending on how many ipods they get back in etc. etc.

Steve jobs has left us now though, so will service be the same???...

I will let you all know in six weeks!

I got my replacement this morning and they're not replacing like with like.

I've got a new current 6G 8GB nano in exchange (no headphones or cable - just the nano) :)

I've just had an e-mail from Apple to say my replacement iPod is on it's way. Checked the serial number, and bonus - it's a 6th Gen replacement!!

Better still, checked the tracking and it was out for delivery today. About 5 minutes later, got text from my wife to say it had arrived.

Much playing for me tonight methinks.

Recieved latest nanos in parcel today, pretty cute, smart looking.

The ipod i sent off to apple was battered and scratched, with only 2GB and battery didn't work at all. They have now replaced it with a brand new (or looks brand new - maybe refurb) colour touch screen nano with 8GB.

Straight on ebay me thinks!

I don't want to put ideas in anyone's heads, but 1st gen ipod Nanos can be bought on Ebay for about £31, which includes a cable and headphones. As the replacements don't seem to come with these accessories, £31 looks like a total bargain. But obviously I'm not suggesting anyone buys one, and then sends it to Apple for a nice shiny new one.... ;-)
