They really do need a native MSI and an LTS version as I so can't be stuffed rolling out a new browser every week just so they can move the buttons about and claim they have fixed the memory usage.

2097 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I believe a lot more virus's are targeting Firefox now days . For the first time in years! i got a virus from a website yesterday with just browsing to the page . My nod32 antivirus detected it but somehow it still mucked up everything !

thepineapplehead Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Just skip the pointless OMG NEW VERSION and change your update channel to Nightly, I've been on version 10 for weeks now. And I must admit .... I can't see any difference in it from version 5, 6, 7, 8 beta, 9 alpha, and so on....
CAM Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The day Mozilla cut their memory usage is the day I jump from IE9 back to Firefox at home. About 27k versus over 100k... Have to use it at work though as it is a Windows XP network.

Tomshardware has a regular browser roundup and it actually won best overall browser due to that. Unfortunately it still doesn't release memory from closed tabs anywhere near as fast as chrome.

If I remember that roundup it was highly suspect, somehow FF managed to win for memory usage with the largest single page footprint of any browser. The only place it was better was with 20 or so tabs open.

I saw a chart somewhere saying the first LTS release would be 7 or 8. Firefox 8 or 9 will be the base for the initial ESR (Extended Support Release). They either need LTS or silent auto-update like Chrome. Mozilla are working on silent updates too... blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases/2011/10/04/mozilla-firefox-and-silent-updates/

Gatt Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Given up with FF - between their ridiculous release schedule (this is effectively FF 6.3.1 TBH) and its tendancy to eat my RAM for fun has put me right off it. Back on IE9 and a much healthier system (Yes I did put "IE" and "Healthy System" in the same sentence )
