elsiegee40 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Having been working in Sydney during the Ashes and the Melbourne Grand Prix, and seen both, Mr gee40 has been working in Gurgaon near New Delhi since July... and the jammy wotsit is currently at the Grand Prix circuit with a seat in the Main Stand overlooking the pits and the start line! (Not a freebie - he did pay for it himself... the 15000 rupee cost worked out at about £190) He has been very skeptical as to whether Indian organisation would get this event off the ground. Pictures of workers spray painting the grass green and reports of a dog on the track during Friday practice didn't surprise him. When he got there today, he was asked to "wait 10 minutes" while they got the ticket scanners working. An hour and a half later he was in; the ticket scanners still didn't work though! My son is insanely jealous!

The marshalls needed a hell of a lot more training (i.e. their cockups for some reason led to penalties for Hamilton and Perez) but with a year to organise for the next one, it should be quite a bit better. I'd be looking forward to it, if it wasn't on Sky. On the positive side, I now think they should add something to the Red Button - the Rowan Atkinson Cam 1

The atmosphere looked amazing on TV, it might not have been the best race but it certainly wasn't one of the worst by far. Agree about the Atkinson cam - his reaction was priceless!

I don't want to pass too much judgement on the track until next year when they can prepare properly rather than spray-painting things on last minute!
Jamman960 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 I'm hoping the new American tracks are up to scratch and finished in good time, both India and Korea only just managed to get their tracks finished in time, if i hear 1 more mention of dust today I'll scream... there just shouldn't have been that much around. The video of the Austin track on the program today dosen't give me much hope although it was shot a month or so ago, the New Jersey GP should be ok being a street race etc
john Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 The spraying grass green happens at more than India, it was shown the other week on the Beeb pre-show stuff with one of the F1 guys when they do the whizz round the track to talk corners etc and they were spraying the grass green then and it was that is how they make it green As for £190 for that seat I wish it was the British F1, your looking at over £300 for that seat here! They said it was something like £35 for an entry level admission.

john Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Wow that photo is impressive, i should put up my one from the British GP this year, that is amazing I've had offers to buy it if I get it pro printed, its Lewis in the wet and you can see all the details on the car at speed it is impressive! @TheScarfedOne will confirm as he has seen it

Indeedy it was epically good and yes I think so the weekend worked well didn't it with the accommodation etc. Maybe @robk might like to join us for it this time? Maybe we will start teh day 1hr earlier though to avoid that rather small queue.....
