TonyR Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Hi Folks I was hoping you might be able offer some ideas... I am looking at putting some new desks and chairs into my Primary ICT Room... The existing ones are too high for the Prep and younger grade students. I am thinking about some desks that would be aimed at Year 3 so that they are useable by Year 5 but also Year 1..... I need to keep the CPUs off the floor.... Can anyone please point me in the direction of suppliers for things like this. I am happy to consider all sorts of things as I also need to redesign the room to take 20 instead of 17 PCs. Sorry the picture is so poor. Any ideas greatly received... Many thanks, Tony.
speckytecky Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'd get a installer to give a quote for purpose built units. That way you can get the heights right and cabling ducts in the most useful places.

north-ict Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Here is another option you can try some bespoke benching set up in the attachment i added. I had a middle bench added recently to my ICT suite and it worked very well.

My problem is getting desks made, we are in Portugal and the quality of some jobs are pretty naff here, other stuff that is imported is very good but expensive.. I guess my first battle is to figure out what height of desks I need... any ideas? Thanks, Tony.

MYK-IT Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Slight amendment to North-ICT layout, just have 3 (or 4 if middle is doubled) rows as you always lose a space or 2 in corners. (chairs hitting back to back etc) We use standard desks with bespoke CPU cradles underneath (you could always use generic CPU holders if required, or put everything on the worktop) and have double/triple compartment trunking around the perimeter of the room for data/mains installed just under desk height so no sockets can been seen leaving a clean desktop for the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Alternatively, you could always use kitchen worktops on suitable legs/supports

Agreed on this system works great for cheap and simple installs I have had some nice work done by Isis concepts which are furniture based and very good kit so very pleased with it.
glennda Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 again kitchen worktop - i've got it half and half in some of my suites (the others i didn't get to choose) they has purpose built stuff which don't get me wrong its nice but so expensive. Kitchen worktop and a chippy/Premises guy will sort that out.

Kitchen worktop and a chippy/Premises guy will sort that out.Who needs them, ICT Dept benching is the best designed and fitted as we think of all the things a chippy forgets like the issue of kids, screws where brackets go, legs in wrong places for chairs and PC cases etc....

I had benches custom-built when I had to rejig my ICT suites. I used north-ICT's solution, but with the central row double-width and machines back-to-back.
