aki Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Hello i am having a bit of trouble with active teach. After our summer upgrade to RM CC4 windows 7 32 bit. we now have distorted sound on the program, however if you find the root of the sound file it will play perfectly, ion both quick time and vlc. I have reinstalled the sound driver ect. Has anyone else faced the same problem
john Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Would it be a language ActiveTeach by any chance? We were told it was an issue with W7 and Flash and they were hoping Adobe would modify flash to fix the problem.....
aki Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 yes it was a language program french. are there any temp fixes for this do you know?
bossman Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 @aki: We have been experiencing a minor disturbance in the English department as they use ActivTeach software as part of their GCSE program delivery to the students. I did re-install flash as this can become corrupted. Will keep an eye on it. 1
john Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 No known fix for it as of yet when we last spoke to them, they still believe that Adobe will fix Flash around them?! We have it with French and Spanish both of which are a PITA and it can work fine for weeks but then goes terribly wrong. The solution is don't open the program before you are ready to use it and if you have been in it a long time and it just starts to go wrong then close and re-open the program and its fine.
Achandler Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 We had stuttering sound on ActiveTeach (science I think) but installing the proper sound drivers (i.e not Windows default ones) seems to have fixed the issue.
stephen64 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Ah, brilliant - been trying everything to get this problem sorted. Recently started at a school and the Languages staff kept saying "it worked last year" when they were on Windows XP, so started thinking it was a Windows 7 problem or something. Have tried everything, including running it on the local machine (it ran from a shared folder before) - will try what you've suggested John and hopefully that will get us by for now. Will also check the sound drivers that are installed, thanks AChandler.
CapnPugwash Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Same issue here. I installed the latest audio drivers but the problem remains. Language teachers less than happy!
Jaymate Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Same issue here. I installed the latest audio drivers but the problem remains. Language teachers less than happy! Have just resolved this. Go into sound properties and disable the sound enhancements on the speakers. Not had the sound issues since! Jason 2

Jaymate Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Was this on windows 7 or XP? It all worked fine on XP - had problems when we moved to Windows 7. Problem was with teh Windows 7 Sound enhancements! Forgot to say that you need to have speakers pluged in etc so that you can disable the enhancements. Jason 1
chrisdv98 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Hmm, Jaymate I was filled with hope when I read your post saying you had resolved it. That was of course until I went to do the same thing and discovered we have no 'enhancements' tab. Back to square one for us then. Anyone any other ideas?

Hi, Chris, Are you sure you have the speakers or headphones plugged in & powered on and the PC is recognising them? - on ours sometimetimes it recognises the speakers as headphones and vise-versa. It should show a green tick next to whichever one! If I look at the one where it is not recognised it wont show me the enhancement tab - if I look at the one with the green tick it does. Also, if I RDP to a pc it doesn't show me the tab. Can do it when sat in front PC logged on as admin or VNC to pc and log on as admin. Hope this makes sense. J

Must admit that is why I asked the question of XP or 7 as I cannot find that on my PC here at home (not had time to look at work yet but will try to tomorrow), are you using on-board sound or an add-on board as I wonder if its a board depending thing?
CapnPugwash Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I'm running the Active Teach software on Windows 7 machines. I've been in touch with Pearson support and I've: 1) Installed the latest (correct!) audio drivers 2) Disabled 'Enable Audio Enhancements' option 3) Uninstalled Flash activeX and reinstalled I've still got random audio issues. I don't have audio issues with any other software apart from this language kit. I'm now going to have to swap the PC's in the language rooms for old XP boxes - nice! The MFL teacher wasn't best please when I told her 'XP wont last forever' !!! Anyone had any joy resolving this?
Hayleywow Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Any fix as yet?? We are having these issues also..... Any help gratefully received
Sylv3r Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 We disabled the sound enhancements also and it sorted our issue. This was advice from their Support team, if you give them a ring they will talk you through the fix. I couldn't find out how to roll it across our network so it's been a manual process to get it working for us in the rooms that require it.
CapnPugwash Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 We've still got the same issue. We've talked to Pearson support, they've sent an engineer out and they have also taken one of a machines (A Dell 380) away for testing - they couldn't replicate the error. I think it is the 'sound enhancements' problem and user profiles. Our staff profile is tied down and they cannot access the 'sound enhancements' controls. We turn off 'Sound enhancements' when we are building a clean machine but I don't believe the setting propagates to all users.
