ChrisH Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I have had the same chassis and module for 3 years and no problems so far. In fact in 3 years none of the HP Procurve gear has gone wrong apart from 1 GBIC.

It just looks like a manufacturing fault (from the pics), not a lot you can do about it really. If it costs that much, it may be worth exploring extended HP warranties. Just a thought!

I've had their kit for about 9 years or so now and only ever had one issue - reported at 3pm and had a replacement part with me on a pre-10.30 delivery the next day!

One went fine, one they sent out the wrong replacement due to their web site not listing the correct switch (though since I gave them the serial number the should have noticed this). The last one took a couple of days because there was no replacement stock in the UK.

Not all HP kit does now days and only for the first purchaser but on major stuff like the chassis switches then yes it will. Ben

But my spare part should be here today. :S So, some sort of power spike fries your UPS, so it is 'dead', and you'd like the power to just carry on to your servers?

Its that even when the ups had died you could not put in bypass and boot anything. We moaned to APC and got a phonecall from the CEO

Funnily enough one of my APC UPS' has just done this......6 weeks out of its 2 year warranty! Not impressed as I've now got to find more money to replace it (which I hadn't originally put in our budget requirements for this academic year) :-(

I'm going to look at the AEG ones a bit further for my replacements.

The only HP Switch i've ever had fail was a little 2626 that wasn't on a UPS, power surge killed it. Only other issue i've ever had was our 4108gl reaching capacity and falling over whenever i tried to make changes, now replaced with an 8206zl though. Edited September 26, 2011 by mrbios

Many core switches allow you to install various modules, so it's fully customised for your needs. Most switches are typically just 1U in height and only allow a couple of transceivers to be installed.

Or as is the case with this one you just purchase a chassis and then buy modules to go into said chassis. So to start with it looks like this then you get modules you want and it looks like this
