Why would he keep messing about with it, like that?

I don't understand his motivation, unless it really IS all about the money. I know I won't be buying them, as the extra adds nothing to the film. I was MOST shocked to see that in the DVD release of Return of the Jedi, when they're having the party with the ewoks, at the end, the original Darth Vader had been excised.

Mind you, about 10 years ago, I had a friend who met an american girl in a bar in London. Turned out that she was the daughter of George's ex-wife. She used to get some ridiculous amount credited to her account each month. They ended up moving into a nice flat in Chelsea, which he kitted out with massive screen, and all the goodies. Even went to dinner and sat next to the formerly "great man".

I did suggest that next time they met, he asked "George.....Jar jar Binks....WHY?" Sadly, the relationship died after about a year.

Yeh I hated that too, why when dvd's can do alternate scenes not include the original versions?!?!?!

I think Simon Pegg said it best:

(paraphrase)

I'm really annoyed, but it's like being sad that a deceased relative is slightly more decayed.

Cracking analogy.

Have you ever come across "Red Letter Media" Simon Pegg is a big fan, as these guys explain episode 1 to 3 was so bad. each review is almost as long as each movie!

Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace |

Enjoy!

I am addicted to these guys... the new reviews with half in the bag are ace.

I can't see many fanboys forking out all that for the blu-rays.. tempting though it is to see Leah in HD

Will still get it, so many rages occured when Lucas did all the changes for DVD but still sold a shed load of em. Fact is in the end if you want Fancy High Quality star wars you will buy it at worst wait till it drops in price ;)

hehe! can't beat the original trilogy tapes yeah!!!

Quality is poor but I know what went into the original films and all this tweaking and adding is taking away the feel of the original movies in my eyes :(

"Old an feeble I may be but look as good you at my age" I liken myself to Yoda, just a little taller and my ears are not pointed. :)

There is an important thing to remember about Star Wars films.

They are for CHILDREN!

When we saw them as children, we loved them.

I'm sure if you show children the modern versions, they will love them.

Is anyone that saw them for the first time 30ish years ago, really that bothered about them anymore? Are you really?

The Laser Disc versions are the ones to get. Exactly the same films as on the VHS tapes, but better quality. Google "Definitive Original Edition" for more info. :)

I can't see what the fuss is about personally. Star Wars fans will already own the previous revisions of the films.

My kids love the older versions better than the new edited stuff......:)

I sure am!, more than ever and if you new how the special effects where created in those day's then you would realise how passionate I am about the older versions

Lucas is a failure of his own success and we do have the "older" generation to blame. The original Star Wars worked even though critics said it wouldnt and I remember watching an old interview and he did say that so many people were against him. He did it the way he wanted regardless what others said...

Kind of reminds you of something?

Have to disagree with you, there, Pies....

They are not for children, but for all ages.

The revisionism that is taking place over some scenes is quite appalling. Take Han and Greedo for instance.....

In the original, Han shoots Greedo, gets up, pays the barman for the mess, and walks out. In the newer versions, Greedo shoots, misses, and Han shoots and kills.

Now, this doesn't make sense.....

Greedo is a bounty hunter, and is sitting no more than 6ft from his target. You'd have to be a very poor shot to miss your target at that range, especially when the target doesn't move. How on Tatooine did he ever make a living as a bounty hunter???

Secondly, by having Greedo shoot first, you are changing the basic premise of Solo as a person. He was a gun runner, and took illegal shipments on board the Falcon. Therefore, he's NOT squeaky clean! But the new revision is to make him appear a bit whiter. This is wrong, IMO. He was a rogue, albeit a loveable rogue, and that is what drew Leia to him.

George should really stop messing now!

if you go a bit more into the back story gredo isnt really a bounty hunter hes just an "odd job man" jabba sent to basically get rid of him

That and, you know, something just didn't feel right when she kissed Luke...

Should that excuse his inability to hit someone with a blaster from less than 6 ft though?

As I remember (and I was 8 at the time) everyone wanted to be Han, cos he was cool! My mate, cos he was older than me, made me be Luke.....I should've protested more....but he WAS bigger than me!

Mind you, cos it was in my house, I got to use the swivel chair, and shout out "I got one!"
