Dear everyone,

I'm looking for some advice about replacing two projectors. One of the issues that the teacher has raised with the existing projector fitting (conventional fitting on the ceiling about 12 feet from the Smartboard) is that when the children in the classroom above rush in the ceiling sways, putting the projector out.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably good quality, reasonably cheap short-throw projector? They need to work with a Smartboard but otherwise I can't think of any criteria that might affect purchase. Let me know if you can.

If anyone also has any suggestions on a standard ceiling-mount projector - something reliable and reasonably good quality - that would also be much appreciated.

In terms of budget - money is very tight. The less I can spend the better.

I've got 2 Hitachi ones and they're ace! Hitachi ED-A101 and Hitachi CPA-300N

the 300N is ridiculously bright because it was going in our media suite so you might be better off with the A101

I'm in the process of having 34....YES, 34!....installed in my college.

These are Hitachis' to go with the smartboards we're having fitted.

The model number is ED-A220N, and they are pretty decent bits of kit, from what I've seen so far.

Usually get the A101 (think thats the number), find them great and image brightness/quality seems to last OK...plus it has now got a big filter and at least shuts down when its blocked rather than just keeping going and overheating!

Hi,

The EDA 220 is the current Hitachi ultra short throw offering, decent unit. I believe the current Epson offering is the EB455 (or it could be 460) again a good unit and both should come with bracket included. The Epson X9 that Marc mentioned is a standard throw unit (way to read the post).

Does it have to be an ultra short throw as there are a number of short throw units that could be wall mounted which should eliminate the wobbling issue, and would be cheaper than the ultra short throws.

Ha ha brilliant! Apologies Marc it seems I didnt read it properly!!!!

Yeah the X9 is a decent standard unitor you could look at something like the Sanyo XE2200 fairly standard but decent price.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. The head has now decided there isn't the money for short-throw, so I've got to find two cheapish projectors and fit them before the end of the week.

Go me!

why not replace them with interactive projectors? they will eliminate the need for the ubiquitous Smart board and save money in the long run?

Gotta say....

Now they are all in, and the tutors are back, they seem to love them. They really are very very good.

Had bright sunshine in a classroom, whilst testing, and they performed exceptionally well.

Money well spent for our college.

I hadn't heard of them. I suspect, though, that the cost of them at the moment will be a problem. There's been no ICT budget in this school for about 5 years and the system (1 server, 40 workstations, 6 smartboards) essentially operates hand-to-mouth. When, last term, I told the head that the ICT network will cost £9,000 a year to maintain (based upon needing to replace computers, servers and boards every 5 years) she was horrified. There really is absolutely no money.
