Guest Guest Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 Anyone got any experience of these? I want one for the school hall so we can took our PC away in a cupboard around 30 meters away. At the moment our projector is only XGA but in the future I want to move to 720p or better. It also has to be near perfect picture quality. Does anyone have any recommendation on which VGA over Cat5 kit to buy?
webman Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 We have a Lindy one in a technology workshop. I think it may be this one: Lindy CAT5 VGA Extender, Up to 50m - Misco.co.uk
localzuk Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 We have one of each of the below, and the quality is fine. We only use them over about 10 meters but 30m isn't significantly longer for a vga over cat5 signal. (Note, they were not as expensive as their list prices!) http://uk.startech.com/product/ST124UTPEA-4-Port-VGA-and-Audio-over-Cat-5-Video-Extender http://uk.startech.com/product/STUTPEALRGB-VGA-Audio-Cat5-UTP-Long-Range-Receiver
bart21 Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 StarTech.com Mini VGA Video and Audio Extender over Cat5 | Ebuyer.com have used these before, they do sound as well, pretty awesome actually. nick
Achandler Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 We use one and it goes about 30ms and it is fine, infact we use them in 5 places. Some go for about 50 metres for sure. They are all ok
Heebeejeebee Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 We use an Avocent Emerge box for one of our remote machines. Admittedly it's quite a good one that does KB/Mouse, Dual DVI and sound as well. We use HD dual screen resolutions (3960 x 1080) with no problems at all. HBJB
john Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 I've used a good number of these, and in-fact my new refurbished rooms will all get these for the Projectors in them rather than a VGA lead / DVI Lead simply because times are moving on and VGA is going to die off as is DVI and who knows what we will be using in 10 years time when I swap the Casios that will be fitted out. I have never paid more than £50 for a pair though! I got some CPC value ones with audio last summer for drama - PRO SIGNAL|PSG03502|VGA + AUDIO OVER CAT5 KIT | CPC They were on offer at the time so were just over £30 for the pair and have been great, I have also used Rextron ones again from CPC and they have also been great. Search Results | CPC is the main CPC category for them
