Dell Inspiron M301z is a consideration, but I'm not sure about the CPU in it (Athlon II Neo) Anyone bought anything similar lately?
jamesfed Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 My HP dv2 runs off an Athlon Neo II - think of it as a super supped up Atom (in fact I can even run Crysis on my laptop at low detail levels). One thing I would strongly suggest is that you look at getting a SSD for your laptop - even if you only go for a 60Gb it will make all the difference.

A Lenovo X100e was going to be my fallback in the event that I couldn't find a HP dv2 (by the time I bought it the dv2 line had been retired) but in the end bought it at John Lewis for £200 off and the usal 2 year warranty - ripped Vista off it instantly and put on a clean install of Windows 7 If you wan't something seriously good keep an eye out for the new HPs with the AMD E-350 APUs in - even more powerful with much improved battery life.

Norphy Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Although it's not listed on their website, Stone do a laptop based on the Clevo S3101 platform which fits the bill. We bought 25 odd recently, I think they came in for less than £500 a piece. I think Stone call it the NB1103. They're nice pieces of kit, better than the usual Clevo faire. They're based on CULV Core i3s.

I bought an Inspiron M101Z (virtually the same as above but 11") and I'm happy with it. Screen is really nice and the keyboard/trackpad are good too. Battery life is about 4 hours which is kind of average. My only real compaint about it is that the fan's a bit noisy.
