achesterman Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 We have recently decided to start the upgrade process and roll out Windows 7 Enterprise. Win 7 is currently installed on my machine and a few others for testing. Our printers are deployed using a batch file as different people need different printers. The batch file works correctly on XP and should on Win 7. When I run the script it asks if I want to install the driver, for which I press yes. However the printer then does not appear? Which confuses me, our print server is running server 2003 R2 incase this makes a difference

Busybub Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Try hotfix KB982728, and disable point and print restrictions in local policy of each computer (comp config/admin templates/printers)

RobBaxter Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I would strongly recommend using GPO now for printer assignment under a windows 7 / server 2008 r2 environment. I use this in a live environment with no issues. Like yourself, I have printers in different locations and based on PC and "Teacher / Student" need to offer different printers. Thus GPO is really the only sensible or manageable way to do it.

RobBaxter Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I deploy since a full school year all my printers via GPO. There is no issue what so ever with the system, even the driver deployment works nicely. I do however, only have Windows 7 64 Bit clients... so it "should" work out the box of course.

As far as i know 2003 R2 for example is (XP Gen), soooooo in that case It's gpo for printing is probably stripped down. That being said, I know it was used before me. Maybe deploy a IT Office printer using it and see how much it breaks things

I am deploying printer through Printer Manager with applies a printer to a room full of windows 7 machines with the gpo attached to the ou for the room and the printer deploys to the users and computers in the gpo. As an admin it works 100% As a student or staff it sometimes applies as you log on and sometimes after say 10 to 15 mins and sometimes not at all. I have tried enforce and that did not fix it. I have tried l User Group Policy Loop Back Processing under the Computer Configuration > Policies > Admin Templates > System > Group Policy set to merge and that did not fix it. All other gpo's apply just the printer one is random. Other general facts print server running windows 2003 domain controllers on windows 2003, and windows 2008 domain set at windows 2003 Has anyone got any ideas
RobBaxter Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 on a malfunctioning station do a gpupdate /r so we can see whats going on if its not farting out errors at you then it looks bugged!
