itguy22 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Hi All, Can you reccomend a good smartphone? My contract upgrade is due and I am unsure what to get. I ususally go for windows based but had mixed reviews about the HTC HD7. What do people think?

warface Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 The HD7 is Windows mobile 7, not Android. Probably the best two phones out at the moment are the Samsung Galaxy S2, or the HTC Sensation. Both Android, both brand new this month.

Better since last update, but still happen. Notification alert sounds are glitchy. This is the one supplied by work (but picked by me - bad move, and will be replaced ASAP) Also have a personal Samsung Galaxy S2. Best phone i've ever had, and I've had iPhones for 3 years prior to the SG2.

I do like driod but I find a lot of the UI uninspiring the the apps a bit boring. The whole WP7 app's design is very nice imo.
DAZZD88 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Anything by HTC loaded with Android. Their sense interface and Google Android go very well together. Apart from the sometimes dodgy batches of phones they build (of which I got one originally), they're pretty unbeatable. The only thing with Android, try and get a phone with 2.3 on it. It has much better battery life than 2.2 and supports a proxy server.

DAZZD88 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Apparently (I cannot verify due to T-Mobile not having released 2.3 for the Desire) when you go into your Wifi settings, you can press the menu button then select advanced and it should be in there.
alunmjones Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I have a HTC HD2 running a modified android now, i still have windows mobile 6.5 installed on it, i prefer 6.5 over 7 but android over windows, ive got it connected to our radius wifi using certificates, its connected to exchange and the job system so as i go about the school any jobs that are added i get instantly, well nearly I couldnt find a proxy settng for it, i have android 2.2.1 installed at the moment, might see if i cant upgrade, there are apps you can get from the market place that says they will let you use a proxy, but i couldnt get them to work, ive set our DHCP server to give my a static ip address based on my mac, then toled the ISA server to allow that ip adress though, its the only way i could get it to work

Nope (i have 2.3 on my desire - leaked rom). think that its coming in 3.0 or 3.1. There should be an app that lets you set proxy settings but i've not used it myself. It is one of the downsides of android

This lets administrators work with users to set a proxy hostname, port, and any bypass subdomains. This proxy configuration is automatically used by the Browser when the Wi-Fi access point is connected, and may optionally be used by other apps. The proxy and IP configuration is now backed up and restored across system updates and resets. Coming in 3.1 source
DAZZD88 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Ah, after reading another thead on here it appears I was mistaken and that the proxy support is in the latest version of the HTC Sense interface. That would explain why the Nexus One doesn't have it. My bad!!
