What is your default student home page? Corporate or VLE???

When students access the Internet in school what do they see as the default webpage?

Google at present, we used to have our old Moodle site, but the hosting provider of that got arsey and kepts locking us off it due to excessive hits, we will probably go back to the VLE once we get the new one up and running I suspect, although I may make a simple page with links as people seem not capable of using the search box in IE8 or going to the address bar and going Google

Our students see a student page on our VLE with annoucements, links to their webmail etc. We try and give them one click links to as many places as we provide for them including revision sites, student blogs etc.

 

We are currently redeveloping the subject VLE launch page and will change it to this location for September including RSS feeds suitable for whichever year group that student is a member off - we are currently investigating Postereous as a means of staff adding student news directly rather than the large amounts of "Please can you tell everybody there's a cake sale...." e-mails that fly around to all staff who are then expected to pass on these messages in assemblies / registration classes.

We link to our intranet which was custom built by myself - various links to Bluesky/vle/todays cover (from sims) and the various requests using simple forms and PHP mailer.

 

EDIT: we also have our noticeboard which staff can post notices to.
